UI designer

SH:24

About the role

This is a rare, incredibly exciting and rewarding opportunity to join a high performing team and a rapidly expanding health tech start up, with a meaningful social mission.

We are looking for a confident, talented and motivated UX and UI designer to help us continuously optimise existing experiences and design new ones.

About SH:24

SH:24 is an innovative and multi-award winning heath tech company, delivering online sexual and reproductive services across the UK, 24:7.

We offer:

  • Unrivalled specialist clinical advice and support
  • Interactive sexual health risk assessments with linked health promotion advice
  • STI home test kits
  • Treatments
  • Access to a range of contraception

Our users move seamlessly between digital and physical services, with clinical excellence ensured through partnership with NHS specialist sexual health services.

We promote self-management, offering service users a portfolio of clinically assured, discreet and easy to access services which would traditionally be delivered in NHS clinics.

Our objective is to improve access to sexual health services while also realising efficiency savings through a more holistic, user centred service. The service is designed to be flexible around the needs of users, encouraging greater autonomy, both in making decisions about their care and in navigating their preferred route through services.

Proud to be a not for profit, we have an appetite for social good, innovation and sustainable growth.

Our brands include Fettle.health, which offers users the choice of paying for sexual and reproductive health services.

Candidate

You will be highly skilled designer, who always works to achieve high accessibility standards, and designs user interfaces and flows that are easy, intuitive and pleasurable for users to interact with.

You will be passionate about user led UX and UI and capable of communicating insights and opportunities to a diverse audience.

You will be a team player, and work in cross-functional teams, with other designers, developers, product owners and other key stakeholders in the organisation (inclusive of clinical, operations and finance teams).

You will be enthusiastic about creating positive social change, be user focused, collaborative, hard working and have a flexible approach suited to working within an agile fast-paced health care environment.

You will have a relevant degree and demonstrable history as a mid/senior service designer delivering high-quality user-centred design projects from end-to-end.

You will have experience and confidence in:

  • collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team of designers, researchers, front and back end developers,
  • leading creative workshops, planning sessions or on-site user research, and;
  • understanding and navigating complex briefs and gnarly intractable problems.

Ideally, you will have experience designing within or for the health sector, but an inquisitive mind is essential. You will be interested in sexual and reproductive health care, public policy and global public health.

Responsibilities

Design UX and UI that continue to put SH:24 at the forefront of user-centred health care services.

Develop wireframes, user interfaces, journeys and touchpoints that identify and respond to user behaviour (unmet need, pain points, drivers and barriers) to meet accessibility standards and result in experiences that are on brief, on brand and beautiful (in every way).

Skilled in rapidly building paper and digital interactive prototypes.

Ensure insights from user testing are implemented into interface designs.

To work across a portfolio of projects simultaneously working with people across the business to gather, iterate and validate requirements through prototyping.

Optimise existing services and design new ‘green field’ services.

Work cross-functionally with including other designers, full stack and front end software developers (as well as the wider team, including clinicians and operations team members).

Be proactively abreast and responsive to new trends and developments in modern UI, ensuring internal processes and activities remain innovative, relevant and impactful.

To represent the organisation when liaising with external clients and suppliers and at external speaking events.

Create tangible opportunities to ensure the service development team are sharing and integrating learning from programmes across the business, documenting and distributing patterns and learnings, to avoid duplication of effort across the business.

Education & training

A relevant degree.

A demonstrable history as a senior user experience and user interface designer delivering high-quality user-centred design projects from end-to-end (at least 3 years experience).

Experience collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team of designers, researchers, front and back end developers.

Technical skills

A skilled designer who has experience applying design patterns when developing wireframes and interfaces.

Advanced user of design software to wireframe, map and brand, such as the Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, and other digital prototyping tools.

Extensive and practical experience working on multiple projects within a multidisciplinary team in a fast paced, iterative environment.

Soft skills

Ability to communicate thoughts and ideas well, both verbally and visually.

Have an awareness of what it means to work within health care, to be responsible for delivering services that protect and support users particularly those who may be more vulnerable.

Ability to manage expectations of internal and external stakeholders.

Character & personality

A good listener, honest critic and imaginative problem solver.

A willingness to get stuck in and be hands-on.

Ability to keep calm and think rationally under pressure, and react quickly and efficiently to change.

Drive and determination to always get the job done to the highest standard, and willingness to go the extra mile to do so.
