Posted 5 years ago

We are looking for a UX Designer with a passion for researching and mapping user journeys, frameworks and prototyping!

The Project
Named by the World Economic Forum as one of the world’s 30 Technology Pioneers 2016, Synthace is re-imagining how we work with biology, exponentially improving the speed and quality of the final results. This is made possible through our universal platform and CAD tool for lab automation, Antha, which is already impacting how scientists work with biology in major companies like Dow, Merck and GSK.

Responsibilities
Working within a highly multidisciplinary team spanning the full range from software to biological engineering you will have overall responsibility for the user experience as well as detailed design of user interface components for our React-based webapp and associated applications.

You will need to bring a great deal of flexibility to the role, which will be mostly focussed on UX research, but will also involve aspects of UI design and web design. As a member of a lean startup culture you will want to work closely with the domain specialists in our team, being highly proactive in understanding and eliciting user and business requirements. You will be creative, willing to test, refine, throw away and start over to ensure you deliver high quality results - a sophisticated platform that biologists want to use and quickly learn how to use.

Key requirements:

  • Proven UX design experience of multi-page applications with complex user journeys
  • Ability to get to grips with a complex problem domain
  • Comfortable with and capable of executing quality user research
  • Good knowledge and experience of user interface design patterns
  • Excellent visual design skills with a strong portfolio
  • Expertise in appropriate tools e.g. Sketch, Illustrator
  • Understanding of implementation constraints on interface
  • Driven, self-starting, with a practical approach to problem solving

Preferred:

  • Experience working in an environment where you are translating real world interactions to and from software requirements
  • Some familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript / TypeScript
  • Data visualisation experience
  • Experience working in Agile development
  • Knowledge of material design principles
