ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

Edquity offers a suite of college financial planning and success tools for high school and college students, supporting students through every financial decision on the road to college graduation. These tools include Edquity, the first of its kind college financial planning and budgeting app that guides students through the complicated financial journey from high school through college to help students realize a positive college return on investment, and Edquity FAFSA, which helps students easily, accessibly, and accurately complete and file the FAFSA electronically. By supporting students through each major college financial inflection point on the way to college graduation – beginning with a student’s upfront college decision and how to finance it all the way through to spending at college – Edquity improves college graduation rates and helps students position college as their first step to a fruitful financial future.

Edquity has raised over $1MM, including over $500k in prize funding to date from funding partners that include the Lumina Foundation, Gates Foundation, New Schools Venture Fund, CFSI, and NYU. It is financially supported by and has a partnership in place with Wells Fargo. Edquity has worked with schools and districts that include NYC DOE, DC Public Schools, IDEA Public Schools in Texas and Louisiana, and YES Prep Public Schools in Texas. It also will be piloting its new college product with multiple colleges this coming winter semester, including LaGuardia Community College,.

POSITION: UI/UX Designer

Edquity seeks an experienced User Interface and User Experience Designer who is passionate about financial capability, equity in higher education, college graduation for low and middle-income students, and social mobility generally.

The UI/UX Designer will be primarily responsible for designing the visuals and interactions that comprise Edquity’s suite of college financial planning and success tools. The UI Designer will work closely with the CEO, Lead UX Designer, development team, and key stakeholders to gather and understand user, business and functional requirements. While this position will be responsible for working alongside the Lead UX Designer in primarily a UI role to deliver solutions, an understanding of human centered design and UX principles is essential, as there will be some UX responsibilities associated with the position.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

As the UI/UX Designer you will be responsible for:
? Putting together a cohesive visual design system in Sketch to support future product development, including development of unique icons.
? Translating complex ideas into visually elegant, user-friendly designs
? Creating, improving and using wireframes, prototypes, style guides, user flows, and effectively communicating your interaction ideas using any of these methods
? Presenting and defending your design decisions. All your design decisions should be based on the overall design roadmap as well as your own design thinking and fundamental principles (i.e. color theory, visual weight, etc.)
? Continually keeping yourself and your design team updated with the latest changes in your industry’s standards
? Working closely with Lead UX Designer to identify potential issues or areas for improvement during design process
? Working proactively with the development team to responsively design and deliver high-fidelity wireframes and oversee implementation
? Immersing yourself in required substance as it pertains to personal finance, the FAFSA, or the college affordability landscape

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements include:

? Proven track record designing clean, simple and cutting-edge web and mobile interfaces
? Diverse portfolio exhibiting excellent use of typography, color, animation, and attention to detail
? Experience using tools such as Sketch, Adobe Suite, InVision
? Experience working in an agile/scrum development process.
? Pixel-perfect attention to detail and the ability to iterate quickly
? Proactive, self-directed mentality with a hunger to learn and a willingness to take on responsibilities sometimes outside of one’s “lane”
? Understanding of or willingness to get acquainted with how high schools and universities operate
? Strong belief in equity and deep sense of purpose with regard to social impact work
? Understanding of user-centered design principles

Strongly Preferred:

? Startup experience
? Current residence in or willingness to relocate to New York

Preferred:

? A background in financial services or education
? Experience working with personal finance products
