About Us

At Cloudflare, we have our eyes set on an ambitious goal: to help build a better Internet. Today, Cloudflare runs one of the world’s largest distributed networks that powers more than 10 trillion requests per month, which is nearly 10 percent of all Internet requests worldwide. Cloudflare protects and accelerates any Internet application online without adding hardware, installing software, or changing a line of code.

Our customers range from Fortune 500 companies and nonprofits to small businesses and budding entrepreneurs. We are working to create a faster, more secure, and more reliable experience for anyone online and given the scale at which we operate, our mission is big. Our team is hard at work shaping the future of the Internet by solving some of its toughest challenges.

We realize people do not fit into neat boxes. We are looking for curious and empathetic individuals who are committed to developing themselves and learning new skills, and we are ready to help you do that. We cannot complete our mission without building a diverse and inclusive team. We hire the best people based on an evaluation of their potential and support them throughout their time at Cloudflare. Come join us!

About the role

As our first Lead UX Researcher at Cloudflare, you're the voice in our organization to focus on the user. Research has always been a part of our design process. You’re coming in to enhance existing efforts. You guide us to better empathize with users’ needs, behaviors, and motivations. You conduct multi-method research to help deliver actionable insight to cross-functional product teams. You instill research at every stage of the product development cycle. Your research-driven product expertise will help us distill the signal from the noise. This role reports to the Head of Product Design and collaborates closely with the UX Content Strategist and Lead Product Designers.

Your work demonstrates your ability to improve complex user interfaces and experiences. You’re eager to shape our emerging research practice.

Responsibilities

  • Lead large projects using multi-method research practices. Your insights inform product vision, strategy and execution.
  • Share insights with cross-functional teams of designers, product managers, engineers, and others.
  • Lead, inform, and guide the work of other researchers and designers.
  • Champion research findings though consumable, clear reports, and exciting in-person presentations.
  • Outreach to the larger product organization to improve empathy with user needs.
  • Create and execute on long term research initiatives which deepen our understanding of user needs.
  • Chances to share what you learn externally. Our team supports and encourages outreach to the public UX communities.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Information Science, Psychology, Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience managing or mentoring other researchers.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Knowledge of Internet technology and related products in a plus.

What Makes Us Special

We’re not just a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company. We’re a highly ambitious, large-scale technology company with a soul. Fundamental to our mission to help build a better Internet is protecting the free and open Internet.

Project Galileo: We equip politically and artistically important organizations and journalists with powerful tools to defend themselves against attacks that would otherwise censor their work, technology already used by Cloudflare’s enterprise customers--at no cost.

Project Athenian: We created Athenian Project to ensure that state and local governments have the highest level of protection and reliability for free, so that their constituents have access to election information and voter registration.

Path Forward Partnership: Since 2016, we have partnered with Path Forward, a nonprofit organization, to create 16-week positions for mid-career professionals who want to get back to the workplace after taking time off to care for a child, parent, or loved one.

1.1.1.1: We released 1.1.1.1 to help fix the foundation of the Internet by building a faster, more secure and privacy-centric public DNS resolver. This is available publicly for everyone to use - it is the first consumer-focused service Cloudflare has ever released. Here’s the deal - we don’t store client IP addresses never, ever. We will continue to abide by our privacy policy and ensure that no user data is sold to advertisers or used to target consumers.

Sound like something you’d like to be a part of? We’d love to hear from you!
