The Role:

As User Researcher you must be familiar with every aspect of the product development lifecycle including up-front research, discovery and user testing of concepts and designs.

What makes a good candidate? Someone who has exceptional research skills, but who also understands the tradeoffs between rigor and being scrappy, and ultimately how research translates into design and product decisions.

The role requires you to be both an expert researcher as well as lead service design/strategic design thinking within an agile multi-disciplinary team. You will face complex and diverse sets of products that require user centred design thinking to maximise usage and effectiveness of interaction.

You must become a trusted partner to product stakeholders by communicating and demonstrating the value of user research, and by delivering insights that lead to demonstrable business value. You must be a qualitative and quantitative data expert. 

The role will be working with the existing products (including offline) but reshaping them to prepare for integration with the evolving digital offering. It will require designing end to end user journeys of analogue experiences and how they will connect with digital experiences.

Your performance is measured by the impact of the products your team launch that solves real customer needs. In order to achieve this, you must be a good team player and communicator and know how to win people over to a user-centred design approach.

Skills & Qualifications (Essential):

  • A / MSc or PHD in Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Cognitive or Experimental Psychology, Sociology or a related field.
  • Keen interest in and experience with supporting learning, education and/or instructional design from a research or service design standpoint
  • 3+ years of relevant varied professional user research experience, across multichannel experiences
  • Experience in applying user research to both online and offline user journeys.
  • Research experience across different methods, with both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. (e. g. rapid ethnography, contextual inquiry, focus groups, surveys, concept testing, usability validation, experimentation, etc.).
  • Demonstrable experience working across various stakeholders (behaviour sciences, content designers, product managers)
  • Track record of discovering, synthesizing, and clearly articulating actionable insights that have influenced real product decisions.
  • Expert at analysis and synthesis. You can help an organisation adopt a wide range of analysis and synthesis techniques. You know how to help an organisation continually improve and innovate their practices to generate clear and valuable findings.
  • Strategic insight. You understand organisational strategy and objectives. You can align research activities across the organisation to create strategic insights. You can align wider research activities across different departments and different geographic locations.
  • Demonstrable expertise of user-centred and agile practices. You understand and have extensive experience of a range of user-centred and agile approaches. You help adopt user-centred practices and embed them into agile design and delivery. You know how to advocate for user research and data driven decision making across teams and the broader organisation.
  • Good understanding of inclusive research. You can help the business understand the diversity of users. You know how to guide organisations to adopt inclusive practices and apply what they learn to design and deliver accessible services that work for all users.

 

Skills (Desirable):

  • Have an interest in content design/strategy and content analysis within UX.
  • Understand how platforms and automation can be used to improve products
  • Experience prioritising in-house research efforts and understanding when and how to leverage 3rd-party vendors.
  • Society and technology. You can align user research activities to help the organisation understand changing user behaviour, and the challenges and opportunities that this insight might uncover.
