Position Overview

At Intelex, UX is not the responsibility of a single team or person. Great user experience stems from great company culture and human driven processes.

UX designers within Intelex not only understand the lean UX process, interaction design best practices and how to prototype MVPs, they also care deeply about building tools and processes that empower others to take on design thinking.

Responsibilities and Deliverables

The UX Designer is proficient and has experience in doing the following:

Design process

  • Primary research methodologies including user interviews, surveys and focus groups
  • Secondary research methodologies including identifying type of data needed, data gathering, analysis and reporting
  • Facilitating ideation sessions with cross-functional teams and customers
  • Information architecture best practices
  • Writing for system emails, UI components, blog posts and presentations
  • Balance design solutions with user needs, business goals and engineering constraints
  • Rapid prototyping of interface designs and workflows
  • Running design critiques
  • Running usability tests
  • Applying platform UX best practices such as material design, iOS Human Interface Guidelines
  • Reinforce brand through a visual language that includes color, type, layout, and motion
  • Understand and apply principles of UI design
  • Backup design decisions with established best practices such as Human Computer Interaction (HCI) principles or other proven design guidelines
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to find optimal solutions to design problems.

Coaching

  • Running design workshops with and for non-designers
  • Articulating the “why” of a design process in a way that all can understand and empathize with
  • Helping upper management understand the value of the design process
  • Helping other teams in the company apply UX principles to ongoing and new projects
  • Pair-design with non-designer team members

Process and Organization

  • Documenting and maintaining design guidelines
  • Building and maintaining user interface libraries in Sketch or other design tools
  • Documenting and maintaining user personas
  • Establishing a framework for prioritizing upcoming work
  • Building processes for continuous usability testing
  • Using JIRA or similar project management tools
  • Contributing to UX process development and integration with product and engineering processes
  • Building partnerships with internal stakeholders across the organization

Organizational Alignment

  • Reports to the Manager, User Experience

Qualifications

Skills & Work Traits

  • Excellent English writing skills.
  • Able to encourage and facilitate critique of their work.
  • Can go from high-level look and feel to granular layout and CSS.
  • Proactive time management skills with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ensures they fully understand the problem before starting to explore possible solutions.
  • Checks the ego at the door and encourages others to do the same.

Technical Competencies

  • Proficient with Sketch and InVision
  • Familiarity with CSS
  • Familiarity with Jira
  • Familiarity with HTML, Javascript and ReactJS is an asset

Experience

  • Experience in measuring and designing for user adoption, retention, and online collaboration platform a strong asset. 
  • 3 – 6 years in a UX role.
  • Experience working with Scrum or other Agile teams an asset.
  • Experience taking a product from concept to market.
  • Experience working within cross-functional teams.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or post-secondary training in a UX-research related area such as social science, psychology, anthropology, library science, computer science, or HCI
