Senior UX Designer

Venuemob

Description

Venuemob is Australia’s leading online event booking marketplace, bringing together thousands of venue partners ranging from unique bars and specialty spaces to internationally renowned hotel chains. The company is backed by Singtel Optus and a number of highly-regarded angel investors. We make it easier for customers to find and booking spaces for all types of events, and make it easier for venues to manage their enquiries and bookings.

We have a strong lead in organic traffic over our competitors, and we do okay at converting this traffic, but we could be doing a lot better... and that’s where YOU come in!

Head of UX Design and Product Owner

This is a rare opportunity. We have an advanced technology platform based on years of work. We have plenty of organic traffic, plus and a huge opportunity to add to that via paid channels.

What we are missing, and you’ll know this within seconds of visiting the site, is a world class user experience. However, given this is a very real problem we are solving for retail customers, corporate clients and venue managers and owners, we are still able to generate decent revenue that has helped us through three (soon to be four) rounds of raising capital. Imagine what we could do with your UX skills applied to transforming our product into something magical rather than settling for simply functional.

What you'll do in a typical week

  • Lead our user research efforts, conducting some of the research yourself while training others to assist and using online platforms that you have successfully used in previous roles;
  • Take that research and convert it into strong recommendations for user-flows, feature improvements, and UI upgrades that will improve all metrics including time-on-site, enquiry rates and bookings;
  • Demonstrate a strong commercial focus by managing the whole Product team, including the developers, to ensure regular improvements to key metrics are delivered and financial goals are met;
  • Incorporate the feedback and feature requests from other team members and from customers and venues, as well as examination of the similar companies within and outside the events space, in order to deliver a world class product;
  • Run A/B tests, convert your ideas into low-fi and then hi-fi mockups in order to conduct further internal and external testing, then manage (or work with) the development team to see your work implemented;

What you'll bring to the role:

  • A passion for creating wonderful experiences;
  • A minimum of 7 years UX design experience, combined with proven UI skills and experience managing or owning a product that was clearly improved under your watch;
  • A passion for user research, including the ability to ask hard questions, validate assumptions and convert that research into a world class product;
  • As strong eye for detail and unwillingness to settle for close enough;
  • Data driven, with a decent level of comfort working with analytics tools and manipulating data in Excel and/or SQL;
  • A desire to take ownership of the product, as well as sit on the leadership team and contribute to all key business decisions;
  • An entrepreneurial spirit with proven success in a fast growing environment that demands fast and objective decision making;
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with an ability to speak confidently to stakeholders including customers, venue owners, shareholders and our Board;
  • A history of academic and career success;
  • A positive attitude, strong organisational skills and plenty of creativity.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your application and advise that only candidates that meet the position requirements and are Australian Citizens or permanent Resident Visa holders will be contacted. Candidate sponsorship is unfortunately unavailable.

Requirements

  • proven UX design skills, most likely having worked on one or more two-sided marketplaces;
  • An absolute passion for user research, the desire to get your hands dirty by doing some of that research yourself, and the ability to train others to assist;
  • A strong eye for UI, and the ability to use existing frameworks and libraries rather than feeling like you need to start from scratch (ie. we are definitely looking for UX first, UI second, but you will be doing both);
  • A desire to own the product, reporting directly to the CEO.

This is not a job for a designer who just wants to blend into a team. You will have a lot of responsibility and be expected to excel in a rapidly changing environment.

Benefits

You’ll join a passionate team based in a beautiful co-working space in Collingwood, Victoria. Our culture is a blend of startup people dedicated to creating a world-class booking platform, combined with passionate hospitality and events people.

Specifically, we can offer the following:

  • Attractive remuneration package around $150K;
  • Report directly to the CEO and sit on the leadership team, with input into all parts of the business;
  • You will own the product, with the total support of the CEO, board and team;
  • Leadership of the development team (unless you prefer someone else take on that role - it’s your call);
  • Flexible working arrangements, although most of the time will be in the office with the team;
  • All of the amenities of a leading co-working space including a range of other great companies, plus meditation, yoga, table tennis, regular events, and Friday evening beer and cider on tap.
