Waverly Labs

*this is a contract job (may lead to full-time)*

Project Name
Ambassador App Design

Company
Waverly Labs is a tech startup at the convergence of speech translation and wearable technology. In 2016 we developed Pilot Smart Earbuds with language translation, the first smart earbuds capable of interpreting language. To date almost 40,000 units have been shipped worldwide.

In 2019 we debuted our newest product, Ambassador, your professional interpreter. Scheduled for production in fall/winter 2019, Ambassador is engineered for superior translation accuracy with multiple modes and features of translation for vast user scenarios.

Objective
The goal of this project is to draft a new design standard for the Ambassador product line, due at different stages before the full product launch in fall/winter 2019. Many key features will be adopted from our Pilot Speech Translator app, search: “Pilot Speech Translator” in iTunes and Google Play, however Ambassador is created for a professional audience and the design theme should represent that perspective. Also, several new features are scheduled for Ambassador which will require testing and research.

Scope of Work
The Ambassador app will require a new design theme for our professional and traveler audiences. Two features from the Pilot Speech Translator app will be recycled: Listen and Converse. A new mode, called Lecture mode, will require further ideation.

Challenges include:
new Bluetooth pairing sequences for Ambassador (not found with Pilot)
designing transcription for multiple conversation participants on one smartphone display
The app must be agnostic for iOS and Android

All mobile development and hardware engineering are performed in-house by the Waverly Labs team. The app strategy is defined internally. This is a design specific role, although collaboration with the product team on UI is expected.

Project Specifications
Work with the product manager to execute design needs
Collaboration with Sketch or other design software
Understanding of basic bluetooth <> smartphone pairing sequences

Insights / Existing Research
