Role: UX Researcher
Reports to: Head of Product & UX
Location: This role will be remote in the continental US, Alaska, or Hawaii
Hours: Full-time
Salary Range: $100,000-$110,000

Overview of the role
The Trevor Project UX team is looking for a passionate, empathetic, and influential foundational UX Researcher to lead research and elevate our solutions across the crisis services journey, which includes Trevor’s 24/7 crisis services, volunteer experience, training, instructional design, and continuous improvement.  You will lead generative, exploratory, pathfinding, and discovery research to identify and solve problems that support our programs to help prevent and respond to the public health crisis of LGBTQ youth suicide. You will have full autonomy to conduct multiple research methodologies (e.g., remote interviews, co-creation sessions, focus groups, journey maps, field studies/ contextual inquiries, and qualitative surveys) that will help us examine problems and influence how we might solve them. A successful candidate will prove highly effective at driving insights into actionable research findings and collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to help shape critical product and technology decisions that impact our frontline direct care team members (counselors, supervisors, volunteers, crisis services operation staff) and beneficiaries (LGBTQ young people, information seekers) of our services.

Who You Are

    • Experienced. You have formal training in qualitative research, psychology, anthropology, or other related fields, and have experience leading qualitative research using multiple methods, including interviews and usability testing, to inform many product development projects centered around user needs, behaviors, and motivations. You have experience determining the right method based on research goals and available resources.
    • Builder. You are able to work both strategically and tactically, with demonstrated success in implementing best practices and creating innovative solutions
    • Goal-oriented. Demonstrated success following processes effectively, on time, and with an eye on all the details that go into successfully achieving goals
    • Collaborative. Recognized success in creating relationships with cross-functional teams and external sources at varying levels, working closely to brainstorm ideas, and develop ways forward, whether you are conducting live research with LGBTQ youth or sharing insights with leadership.
    • Flexible. Proven flexibility in the midst of change, being able to successfully juggle multiple deliverables, and adapting to new situations with fresh ideas or approaches.
    • Mission Aligned. Demonstrated awareness and support for The Trevor Project’s mission and vision: to end suicide and address mental health crises in the LGBTQ youth community, and create a world where all LGBTQ young people see a bright future for themselves.

What You'll Do

    • Contribute to our critical mission of ending suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning young people, while fostering an inclusive approach to your direct work and engagement with Trevor colleagues across the organization
    • Continually grow your LGBTQ competency and awareness
    • Personally initiate and conduct research within or across your delivery teams (PODs, scrum team, etc.) to build deep foundational knowledge of your domain areas. Use a wide variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods to apply to research questions.
    • Conduct all stages of UX research: identifying, scoping, conducting, synthesizing, and communicating actionable insights in a clear and compelling way to inform product strategy, roadmap prioritization, and design.
    • Understand the technology, experiences, and capabilities of your assigned PODs. Work alongside your designated product managers to maintain a thorough knowledge of the direction and vision for your focus areas.
    • Develop a deep empathic understanding of your users, learn about their needs, actions, motivations, and goals, and identify gaps in our systems and services.
    • With the help of your manager and product leadership, effectively manage your research efforts across PODs, while considering other POD goals, the broader product vision, and organization objectives.
    • Evangelize UX research internally, and coach cross-functional project leads conducting their own analyses for specific projects.
    • Prepare and deliver high-impact reports and presentations to stakeholders and leadership.
    • Actively contribute to the UX Research team strategy, culture, and processes.
