Pavilion is hiring Senior Product Designer
About Pavilion
Pavilion’s mission is to improve the lives of all Americans by making public procurement work better. As consumers, public servants can do almost anything quickly and online. But at work, completing a purchase on behalf of their agency takes months — or years — and relies on tech that hasn’t changed since the ‘90s. The process isn’t just painful for public servants; long timelines and high costs deter many businesses from serving this $2T / year industry and produce suboptimal outcomes for Americans who rely on public services.
Our marketplace empowers public entity buyers to find and buy from suppliers that have been pre-qualified to sell into the public sector, reducing costs and the time to purchase from months to just weeks or even days. We’ve already become the go-to resource for thousands of public entities that spend over $1.5B annually through our platform. Fueled by strong buyer growth, we’re now building out the supply side of our marketplace and scaling our paid supplier offering, “Pavilion Pro.”
About this role
We’re looking for a senior product designer to join our product team. You’ll conduct research, design, and build user-centric solutions that drive business goals and impact public sector users. Working closely with product managers, engineers, and other cross-functional partners, you will shape the design vision and play a key role in defining our product’s evolution. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact at a fast-paced Series A company poised for growth.
This hybrid role is based in our downtown San Francisco office. Most of our team members work from our office 3 days a week.
What you’ll do:
-
User-centered design: Lead end-to-end design processes, from user research and problem discovery to high-fidelity solutioning.
-
Deliver impact: Find creative ways to ship high-quality work in a fast-paced, often ambiguous, resource-constrained startup environment.
-
Metrics-driven design: Use data to inform design decisions, balancing qualitative insights with quantitative analysis to validate ideas and measure success.
-
Collaboration and alignment: Partner with product managers, UX researchers, engineers, marketing, and partnerships teams to translate business goals and user needs into compelling designs.
-
Iteration and feedback: Conduct user research, synthesize feedback, and iterate designs to ensure both usefulness and usability in your solutions.
-
Cross-functional influence: Advocate for design best practices, and facilitate brainstorms and discussions that align teams on user-first solutions.
-
Design systems: Contribute to and maintain a scalable design system to ensure visual and functional consistency.
This role is a good fit if:
-
Experience: 5+ years of experience in product design. A strong portfolio showcasing 0-to-1 design solutions that demonstrate user impact and business outcomes (preferably in complex/highly regulatory industries or enterprise/B2B tools)
-
Tool proficiency: Expert use of Figma, familiarity with front-end development principles
-
User research: Ability to turn business goals into research objectives, then conduct and apply user research insights to create intuitive and effective designs.
-
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate design rationale clearly and concisely.
-
Agility: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, startup environment and adept at managing multiple priorities and tight timelines.
-
Comfortable with ambiguity: Ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems with a high degree of ownership
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or a related field is preferred but not required.
Pavilion’s compensation philosophy: Be generous with equity, meet needs with salary. We like to make our best offer to candidates up-front to promote fairness in compensation for all candidates. Pavilion also offers comprehensive medical benefits
-
Salary: The expected salary range for this position is $157k - 167k
-
Equity: We offer a higher than average equity package compared to companies in our stage
