ABOUT NOOKS

Are you seeking an exciting and unique opportunity to grow and support our national security? As a startup, we are offering a limited-time opportunity to be an equity owner in a pioneering new industry. Nooks is pioneering Classified Infrastructure-as-a-Service (CIaaS) to provide government and industry partners with the fastest, most efficient access to classified infrastructure. We are building a nationwide network of accredited classified spaces and systems, ensuring that the best technologies equip our nation’s warfighters. At Nooks, we value innovation, collaboration, and a service-first mindset.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Nooks is hiring a UI/UX Designer to build the next generation of secure infrastructure and software services powering mission-critical national security operations. As the UI/UX designer, you'll partner closely with our users, subject matter experts, and Directors to develop intuitive, scalable systems that serve both government and industry customers.

Your work will establish the user journeys that underpin and enable scalability in Nooks’ Classified Infrastructure-as-a-Service (CIaaS) platform. This role requires a strong expertise in design principles and planning best practices, comfort and competency with back-end capabilities and constraints, and a commitment to performance, automation, and security. You’ll contribute as a leading team member whose work will set the stage for others–so a lot is riding on your performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Discover, develop, and design user journeys and experiences for all Nooks digital products
  • Create platform designs & wireframe workflows in Figma or equivalent software.
  • Identify design standards and implement consistent design packages across multiple standalone platforms to create a unified user experience.
  • Partner on the “who, what, when, where, why, & how” of our software with Design and Product.
  • Identify and advocate for product quality, security, and performance improvements.
  • Communicate frequently with users, leadership, subject matter experts, and colleagues to discover platform shortcomings and identify improvements.

THE SKILLSET:

  • 8+ years of progressively responsible software engineering experience
  • Have extensive experience with Figma, Adobe design suite, Miro, and Sketch
  • Experience leading the design and implementation, through final production, of a standalone application or component of a larger platform
  • Ability to successfully own design problems and manage hand-off to technical team members
  • Made enough mistakes and booked enough wins to know what not to build and what good looks like
  • Excellent communication skills, working with end-users to design and build solutions to their needs, a habit of self-directed learning of new technologies, and the ability to learn quickly and adapt to a fast-paced environment
