GGroupCollect is hiringSenior Product Designer
GroupCollect is a suite of products that lets tour operators handle group travel, especially for students.
We are a bootstrapped company operating in a niche market which we think is underserved. We want to make tools these folks love and rely on, whether they’re devising a trip, selling it to a school, getting travelers registered, collecting payments, or anything else. Tour operators put a lot of trust in us and we don’t take that responsibility lightly.
We believe that diversity and inclusion among our teammates are critical to our success as a company. We are looking for talented people from the widest range of backgrounds.
What you’ll do
You’ll be owning the design process for one of our products from problem framing to delivery.
What you’ll do in the first year:
familiarize yourself with the product
coordinate qualitative user research (interviews) with the PM, gather insights and draw research conclusions
begin the process of redesigning the product
getting familiar with, contribute and evolve our design system and designs
collaborate closely with PM and engineers
do QAs for the implemented designs
collaborate with another designer working on a different product of ours
communicate with other stakeholders
Who we’re looking for
You are a product designer with at least 5 years of experience
You have experience with B2B SaaS apps (ideally for small businesses)
You took part in the redesign or design from scratch of at least one web app
You’re comfortable using and contributing to an already existing design system
You’re comfortable with doing some qualitative user research (interviews, usability testing)
You are proficient in Figma
We’re an international team but not asynchronous. Your working hours will need to overlap with US Eastern Time for 3-4 hours.
You’re great at listening and asking questions, a good communicator with solid (but by no means native) English skills
You should care about the quality of products we provide beyond delivering designs.
What we’re offering
$120,000–$160,000 USD/year depending on your experience
Generous benefits for US employees
We offer a 401(k) matching plan where GroupCollect, LLC matches 100% of your contributions up to 3% of your salary, and then 50% of your contributions on the next 2% of your salary.
Flexible Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA): more affordable than traditional group health plans, personalized to suit your unique healthcare needs, and nontaxable.
Ample paid time off: 30 days per year for international contractors; 20 days per year + 10 legal holidays for US employees (though you can trade legal holidays for days off if you want)
Unlimited paid sick leave
$4,000/year for any hardware, software, furniture, conferences, books, videos or courses you wish to purchase. Anything that will help you do a better job.
What it’s like to work with us
We are a bootstrapped company with a small and nimble crew. While we care a lot about our customers, we put our team first.
You’ll work in a relaxed, informal atmosphere which lets you focus on your work without getting in the way.
Most of your time will go into research and design, not meetings.
Your most impactful work will be structured as broader projects which take about two months to research, plan and design and another two months to build and release.
During the planning phases, you’ll have repeated check-ins with the product manager, the team lead and the project engineers.
Beyond that, you’ll have a short daily meeting with the team and informal conversations as needed.
We care about a healthy work-life balance. You won’t be working more than 40 hours a week except during the rarest of emergencies.
Work stays at work: we don’t expect you to have Slack on your phone or answer email during your off hours.
Our hiring process
Because we’re a small team and we don’t hire a lot, our hiring process is lengthier than some others. While we understand this might be an imposition, we try to be flexible and accommodating throughout this process.
Application:
You submit your resume (a document, URL, or Linkedin profile) and portfolio. You also fill out a short, 4-question questionnaire (we’re looking for personal answers).
Non-technical interview (30 min)
If we choose to move forward, we’ll follow up with a quick 30-minute non-technical call where we can learn about each other.
Portfolio review (1h)
You’ll be presenting a case study of your choice with a focus on the design process, challenges you encountered and your collaboration with the team and stakeholders. We’ll be asking lots of questions.
Paid whiteboarding session (2h)
You’ll take a peek into the app you’ll be working on. We’ll present you with a real-life problem and we’ll work together to solve it. You will be paid $500 for this session, whether we move forward or not.
