Hot Topic, the leader in alternative fashion and licensed fan apparel, merchandise & collectibles, has a great opportunity for a User Experience Designer. This person will help lead Hot Topic, Box Lunch & Her Universe into the future—where websites, apps & stores are seamless, engaging experiences for our customers.

We have a lot going on here at Hot Topic, and 2021 will be a big (and busy) year for the digital experiences team. For the right person, this will be a great opportunity to work on a variety of projects with some great people. We’ll be looking to leverage what you do best, give you opportunities to level-up your skillset, and welcome you as part of our dynamic, diverse team.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

    • Understand product specifications and user psychology
    • Conducting user research and testing
    • Create personas through user research and data
    • Prepare customer analyses based on our target demographic and initial transactions
    • Work directly with product owners and other stakeholders to develop a shared vision of the end product
    • Developing wireframes and task flows based on user needs
    • Collaborating with Developers to create intuitive, user-friendly ecommerce website, mobile and app experience
    • Work in a rapid development and prototyping environment where effective communication is paramount 
    • Define the right interaction model and evaluate its success
    • Track usability goals and prepare reports for senior management
    • Conduct competitive analyses of other websites that operate in the same space
    • Find creative ways to solve UX problems (e.g. usability, findability)
    • Communicate effectively with cross-functional partners, anticipating needs & challenges, and work creatively (and efficiently) to find the best solution to any problem

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

    • User Experience Fundamentals (Wireframes, User Journeys, Flowcharts & Prototypes)
    • Visual Design Fundamentals (Layouts, Components, Icons, Typography)
    • HTML & CSS Fundamentals
    • E-Commerce experience or understanding
    • Experience or understanding of UX Research methodologies
    • Experience with component frameworks, such as Bootstrap, React, etc.
    • Experience working within a team environment, using Agile & Lean processes
    • Adobe Creative Suite, Including Photoshop, Illustrator, and XD, Sketch or Figma
    • Prototyping Software, such as: Principle, InVision, Origami, etc
    • An interest in pop-culture, whether it be movies, music, television, or animation
    • Great communication skills: written, verbal & visual
    • An understanding of how retail, e-commerce, and marketing work
    • A desire to learn & grow their craft
