A Product Designer is the “full-stack engineer” of the design world. They encompass all the roles into a single individual human. On any given project they will execute the research, UX, interaction, visual design, and build prototypes to execute in usability testing. Much like a “full-stack engineer” can span from database, to backend, to front end development. Given they encompass all the roles they tend to have a broad and poignant view on the product they work. This puts them in a unique position to additionally be very influential in shaping the product roadmap.

Job Description

GigSmart is growing rapidly and we have a need for a Product Designer. A Product Designer is expected to own high-impact projects that solve user problems; design intuitive and elegant user experiences, create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, user interface specifications, collaborate with the executive and development team to develop a shared vision, articulate new design solutions, and execute the team’s objectives.

Responsibilities

- Go out into the marketplace and do deep research on all the actors and parties to produce personas, insights, and actionable feedback

- Provide clarity to the problem, research at the project level, and the initial wireframes solving the problem

- Execute usability testing

-Focus on how customers interact with our product. On mobile this is taping, pinching, zooming, one vs. two handedness

- Focus on the actual visual look and feel. This can include colors, line styles, gradients, corner radius, graphics, iconography, typography and more

- Bring the designs to interactive life for either usability testing or writing production code for the product

- Run the full experience design process for a project, from discovery and research through to concept development to wireframes to high-fidelity mocks

- Stay current on emerging UX and digital behavior trends, as well as identify opportunities to incorporate best current thinking into product designs

- Quickly iterate on multiple visual design explorations to arrive at a simple, but robust solution, accounting for complex requirements

- Design for current experiences while also envisioning and creating new experiences for future features

- Collaborate on and be able to present work to a range of stakeholders – executives, engineers, product managers, business leaders, other UX and visual designers

Skills and Competencies

- 2+ years in a relevant design role, such as product designer, UX designer, or visual designer

- Ability to create dynamic designs and to communicate them to the team using prototyping tools (we use InVision)

- Proficient in Sketch

- Proficient in InVision

- Strong online portfolio and results in digital (web and app, if not also emerging platform) work.

- Experience designing with libraries and using a variety of research and testing methodologies

Education Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable design discipline (or equivalent experience)
