Cake is a digital solution that makes it easy for small business owners to buy and manage workers’ comp insurance. A client can buy a policy in less than five minutes using our 24/7 mobile-first platform. Based out of downtown Denver, Colorado, we are a team that works very hard in a fun and supportive environment and we are looking to add a new team player to the growing roster.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

As a Sr Product Designer at Cake, you play a key part in realizing our mission to provide customers with tools they love. Leverage your passion for solving problems and user experience to design amazing products for our customers that are elegant and simple to use. You will test with users and elicit feedback to ensure that we are just building applications that customers really want. This role has a wide variety of responsibilities, and in this startup environment you can expect this role to grow and evolve - sometimes on a daily basis.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to product strategy and roadmaps through customer research and design explorations
  • Prioritize and guide new projects based on company goals and business objectives
  • Own end-to-end design projects from ideation, research, and execution for existing and new product lines
  • Lead Product/Market Fit by creating some elegantly simple workflows that allow us to establish an initial set of reference customers
  • Create wireframes, prototypes and visual designs that are both usable and delightful that enable users to efficiently accomplish their jobs-to-be-done
  • Contribute to achieving key product milestones by creating the designs that drive customer growth, NPS score, conversions, and much more
  • You’ll be responsible for full-spectrum product design; from initial product ideas to creating final pixel-perfect screens
  • Use your range of interaction design, user research, and prototyping skills to create elegantly simple experiences for both mobile and web
  • Organize and run user testing efforts to assess the value, usability, and feasibility of product ideas
  • Iterate quickly and thoughtfully based on feedback from customers, teammates, and stakeholders
  • Measure and help set UX goals and strategy to support larger business goals
  • Recruit, hire, and mentor a team of product designers across multiple projects and disciplines
  • Other duties as assigned

Must Have Qualifications:

  • Versatile product designer that digs into the details without hesitation
  • Ability to create functional prototypes using your design weapon of choice - Sketch, InVision, etc.
  • Strong ability to analyze data from user testing and synthesizing for the product team
  • 4+ years of experience of product design for digital products. You’ve shipped designs that are being used in the real world
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but relevant work experience may be substituted for the degree
  • Ability to adapt your designs across a variety of platforms and form factors. Clear understanding of different platforms opportunities and limitations
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work in a fast-pace and ambiguous environment
  • Extremely organized and consistently advocates for design methodologies and processes
  • Care deeply about technical, scalable, and user-centric models of design

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Passion for solving real user problems and creating products that are elegantly simple to use.
  • Ability to adapt your designs across a variety of platforms and form factors. You understand the opportunities and limitations of different platforms –
  • Proactive and proficient at mentoring designers and members from other teams
  • You question assumptions and are obsessed with feedback
  • Great communication and presentation skills; you are articulate and thoughtful when describing design decisions
  • You think at a high-level about not just how it should look, but about what we should be building
  • Experience working with startups is a plus
