A little about us

Oyster is on a mission to create a more equal world by making it possible for companies everywhere to hire people anywhere.

In 2021, we have grown rapidly, raising over $70 million in both Series A and Series B rounds and increasing our team size by nearly 10x. And we’re just getting started. As a fully distributed startup, we’ve built an incredibly strong leadership team and employee base across 47 countries (and counting!). We embrace asynchronous communication and collaborative work. We live on our platform, and we’re passionate about improving our product every day.

Hiring people internationally is complicated – engineering, legal, finance, operations, and HR processes all interact to make it happen. We’d like to find people who think this is as interesting a challenge as we do.

We're an inclusive and diverse workplace, and welcome applicants from marginalized groups – the world over.

The role ???

What you'll be working on

At Oyster HR we are increasing the size of our engineering teams. Every team is dedicated to one area of our product (e.g. Payments & integrations, People operations, etc.). We’re looking for an experienced UX researcher. You’ll be helping Product managers and Product designers to validate or invalidate our assumptions by bringing the customer's insight to each team and the overall company.

You’ll be joining our product design team. We are a fast growing team of one senior UX researcher and five designers . We are expecting to grow even more in the future.

Key responsibilities

  • Employ a wide variety of qualitative research methods and synthesize the outputs into actionable insights in order to inform the product road-map.
  • Evaluate our current app and prototypes and recommend improvements.
  • Communicate research findings in a compelling and interesting manner for stakeholders with varied backgrounds.
  • Work in a highly collaborative fashion with the design, product, and stakeholders.
  • Facilitate Design Thinking workshops (remotely).
  • Participate actively as a member of the Product design team to help improve and mature our company’s product design overall.
  • Focus on what you do best, while also having the opportunity to improve the skills you’re looking to develop or learn new ones

Key requirements

  • You have 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • You have a strong understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during the product development process.
  • You have experience in design thinking and running workshops.
  • You have end-to-end experience with all aspects of research (study design, recruiting, moderation, analysis, reporting).
  • You are passionate about design, products and people.
  • You are a team player. You love to collaborate and help the organization with energy and enthusiasm.
  • You seek opportunities to learn and grow your hard and soft skills through feedback and self-reflection.
  • You have good communications skills and are comfortable with communicating product and technical concepts to a sometimes non-technical audience.
