About the Position
 

The Senior User Experience (UX) Designer works collaboratively with colleagues and across the Council to design new products, and iterate and improve on the experience of existing ones. In collaboration with the Product Development Team, the Senior UX Designer will guide the design and overall functionality of NCARB’s product offerings to ensure a great user experience.

They will be involved in every step of the design process informed by the vision of the Product Manager and under the guidance of the Assistant Vice President, Product Management. They will work collaboratively with Product Management, UX Designers, Developers, QA Analyst, Data Science, and other stakeholders to identify challenges, opportunities, and solutions. They’ll lead larger design projects, working with other members of the UX team and providing mentorship, to bring these solutions to life.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Consult with and keep supervisor informed on the status of all projects
  • Build coalitions internally and externally (with peers, team members, Member Boards, volunteers, collateral and associated organizations, etc.) to share best practices and achieve common goals
  • Facilitate cooperation and teamwork throughout the organization
  • Communicate and operate in an open manner so that information and actions are clear and visible.

Core Responsibilities – Department Specific

  • Help to drive the strategy and vision of our products; leading to a consistent and efficient end-to-end experience for our customers, admin users, and stakeholders.
  • Lead large strategic design projects, defining long-term vision for our products, working collaboratively with Product Manager, UX, Assistant Vice President, Product Management, and the development staff.
  • Collaborate and build partnerships with UX and other product team members, the customer service team, senior internal stakeholders, and of course: our customers and users.
  • Work with the software development team to establish feasibility for strategic design proposals.
  • Lead large tactical design projects. Working with product and junior members of the UX team to bring phases of our experience vision to life.
  • Mentor junior members of the UX team
  • Assist with UX Strategy and DesignOps

 Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Visual Design, or related field; or a combination of substantial related experience, training, and education may substitute.
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience on a cross-functional product team — designing technical products: enterprise applications, complex data visualizations, or developer tools
  • Provide portfolio of work capturing design process.
  • Experience in standard UX software such as Figma, Sketch, InVision, Axure, etc. (Adobe Creative Suite is a plus). Basic HTML5, CSS3, with cross-browser, cross-platform compatibility. JavaScript skills is a plus but not required.
  • A clear understanding of the importance of user-centered design and design thinking.
  • Great storytelling abilities and compelling presentation skills. You can clearly articulate the design problem, the tradeoffs you've made in your solution, and the impact of different approaches.
  • Willing and able to come up to speed quickly in a complex domain. You have the curiosity and willingness to dive into the technical details when needed.
  • Aptitude for workshop and participatory design session facilitation
  • Enthusiasm for cross-functional team collaboration
  • Strong prioritization skills.
  • You are comfortable making decisions without all the information and can quickly regroup once a misstep is discovered.
