Full TimeUX Design
Posted 5 years ago

We’re looking for a driven UX designer to join our product team transforming care through our managed marketplace platform. You’ll work with our product manager to scope out features and flows, driving user research to ensure we’re doing what’s right for our users and carrying out testing to ensure we’ve been successful.

This role will suit if you:

  • Want space to run with your ideas and experiment with a full stack customer experience, from website to web app and beyond, for atypical user groups
  • Want to be part of a fun, fast-paced team that are constantly improving and continually “getting less wrong” together
  • Not only understand accessibility, but believe in an inclusive design approach and treating other humans correctly
  • Want to implement your own design processes and approach, with the help of a team of bright developers
  • And, most importantly, want to play a role in shifting care for the better, by empowering self-employed carers and giving control to those seeking care.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working from business objectives to scope & plan design projects, including relevant levels of user testing, in tandem with the product manager. The first project is likely to be focused on the new customer experience of booking care, making step changes to our current flow. You’ll need to work within the context of the wider product, considering external touchpoints like phone calls.

  • Driving UX research at all stages, from organising and carrying out upfront user interviews and competitor research, to user and usability testing with wireframes. Our customers are primarily 60+, so there’s an opportunity to become excellent at UX design for seniors, and all users are primarily active on mobile.

  • Working at pace to deliver UX flows at low fidelity, and being able to express how they’ve been shaped and now best serve the user. These flows should be clearly translatable to the development team, with wireframes/prototypes and annotations outlining desired behaviours, and you’ll be comfortable iterating on them according to feedback and technical requirements (avoiding the ‘final’ version). We use interactive prototyping, user needs validation, A/B and multi-variant testing, and MVP testing.

  • Identifying & tracking metrics to assess whether the new flows are serving our users and our business goals, and holding yourself & the team accountable to this success. You’ll be focused on building a product that delivers on our commercial goals and there’s space here to upskill in data analysis and the associated tools.

  • Pushing for standardisation across our UI, with component-driven design and a preference for scalability. You’ll work with the head of front end to identify how to best create quick-to-implement designs that still serve the user, creating a chance to implement a full design system.

Key skills and experience:

The successful candidate will have three years’ UX design experience, and will be:

  • Self-aware and self-driven. You should be striving to improve through actively seeking feedback, and comfortable working autonomously rather than waiting to be directed.
  • Ambitious and excited about tackling hard problems, pushing the team and company to think bigger and do better. Problems might include: How do you get hundreds of self-employed carers to keep their availability up to date? How do we keep humanity and person-centred care at the heart of an online booking process? How can we best support our customers in their decision making when they and their family are distressed and worried?
  • Thorough and pragmatic, taking time to validate assumptions and working within the circumstances.

Ideally, they will have:

  • Experience working on a managed marketplace or a customer booking flow
  • Solid understanding of standard technical requirements
  • Good design toolkit, preferably Sketch & InVision
