Job Summary and Responsibilities
UX Technical Writers specialize in organizing complex content into easy-to-understand documentation that is written in plain language with their defined audience in mind. They are technically curious and able to learn technical terms and coding basics. UX Technical Writers bring a human-centered design approach to their work, using data and user research to inform their choices. They work both independently and collaboratively with other members of the team, such as subject matter experts, designers, and developers.
UX Technical Writers are growing their craft while delivering high-quality government digital services. They achieve this goal with mentorship from more senior practitioners while growing their skills beyond the expectations of this role.
The UX Technical Writer is responsible for (Essential Functions):
- Delivers content work such as terminology lists, API docs, developer tutorials, how-to-guides, competitive analysis, style guide contributions, and policy documentation.
- Utilizes technical writing skills including plain language, inclusive content, clear writing, and content strategy.
- Is proficient in UX process and craft skills. Tackles challenges that are somewhat defined and brings a learning mindset to their work.
- Is learning about and executing on UX strategy for their team.
- Able to work independently and perform tasks with support from colleagues.
- Able to draft artifacts and presentations. Works with senior practitioners to develop appropriate deliverables for specific audiences; is working towards clear and compelling presentations.
- Collaborates with cross-functional team members and stakeholders.
- Generally supports 1 delivery team or senior practitioners.

Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility. The range of starting pay for this role is $73,621 - $108,934 and information on benefits offered is here.
