Role overview:

As a UX/UI Designer with Kunai, you will partner with a leading finance firm to create a world class experience that delivers a stellar first impression, shaping how users understand and prioritize their financial goals. Your work will influence important business metrics, registration and purchase conversion rates, as well as change how users interact with their finances, impacting millions of lives.

Who you are:

You obsess over the desired outcome. The success of what you design is just as important as the way it looks and you put in the research and improve iteratively to assure the success of your design. You care deeply about creating elegant and seamless UI/UX. You want to work with a talented and driven team who pushes you to improve your craft and make a meaningful impact with your work.

You’re comfortable working on multi-disciplinary product teams, collaborating with a triad of product managers and developers to scale digital products. You’re diligent about sharing knowledge and improving standards and team processes.

Responsibilities:

This role will rely heavily on a Designer who is strong at partnering with their PM to research product opportunities and working on those opportunities iteratively with your engineering counterpart to reach the desired business and product outcomes. This role will require someone with a strong visual design sense as you will be working on both a marketing site as well as the onboarding flow within the application. First impressions are important and you will own them. You should have a good sense of brand design as well as a keen sense for great UX that leads to conversion.

  • Work directly with your PM and engineer leads to research, test, design, implement, and validate new features and product improvements to reach the desired business outcomes
  • Collaborate with the data analytics team to understand and measure the impact of new and existing features
  • Find and address UX issues with data-driven solutions
  • Participate in product opportunity road-mapping and feature discussions
  • Assist in building new features and products as part of cross-functional teams, collaborating with your design team to ensure that brand standards are upheld and design patterns are adhered to
  • Improve existing features, keeping them in line with best practices and new technologies
  • Propose and determine new uses of technology and tools to improve UX and solve problems with an understanding of how the technology works and will integrate into the product
  • Gain an understanding of the business, customers, and domain, allowing you to improve product judgment to make decisions on behalf of the customer
  • Improve research and user testing practices as a key step in the design process
  • Share your knowledge/experience/interests with the team - be it through design commentary, design reviews, etc.
  • Learn new skills and techniques that improve your own work as well as the rest of the teams
  • Help shape the future of product design, highlighting areas of improvement, sharing ideas and helping in hiring new team members

Being Successful at Kunai:

  • Not all of these are hard requirements, but they do describe the kinds of people that we think would be most effective here at Kunai
  • You’re a builder at heart – you’ve built systems and scaled processes in the past from start to finish as a functional leader within your company or organization
  • Ability to build a long-term vision and plan, but also to be spontaneous and scrappy to execute it
  • Preference for ambiguity and open-ended problems for which you’ll define the strategy. You love thinking broadly and creatively about problems and how to solve them efficiently
  • Passionate about data, technology, and feedback loops as a means to foster behavior change for estate planning
  • Enjoy thinking through trade-offs, with both mindfulness of short-term needs and our long-term direction

Being Successful as a UX/UI Designer:

  • You have significant experience working with Figma as well as a background in Adobe and Sketch.
  • You are a professionally experienced Designer skilled in UX/UI, brand identity, research, writing, and visual design with a portfolio highlighting these skills.
  • You’re an ardent defender of the user and their experience gaps first, and only consider solution space once you’ve established a firm bond with their experience using products that you build.
  • You’ve started from scratch in a product and know what it means to iteratively conceive, deliver, and polish a feature so that it lands.
  • You’re deeply invested in creating productive and healthy relationships with your cross-functional partners. Collaboration and excellent communication is one of your superpowers.
  • You understand common software development patterns, including the different types of characters involved to build and ship great code. You’ll also have good intuition to drive delivery timelines in an empathetic way.
