Purpose
The UX Designer sits in our Product Team, and is responsible for applying user-centric design methodologies to research, unearth insights, ideate, prototype and create compelling experiences for potential future products and features. Design is a vital catalyst for our future product portfolio and ecosystem, and you will play a hands-on role in researching, designing, prototyping, testing, and refining user experiences for future products. The UX Designer navigates the intersection of user needs, business goals and technological possibilities. At your core, you will be a creative individual with a solid grounding in UX/UI design practices. Your enthusiasm​

Individual Accountabilities

    • Conducting primary and secondary research on market trends, emerging technology and design trends, forming key insights to inform our product design.​
    • Design, host, and facilitate ideation workshops with product designers, engineers and strategists around new products and features.​
    • Use unearthed insights to develop personas, user journey maps, user flows and task flows that articulate the user experience in a clear and compelling manner.​
    • Effectively communicate design ideas and insights to team members and stakeholders, ensuring alignment and understanding across teams.​
    • Develop information architecture as a foundational part of the product design, including designing intuitive navigation systems, organizing and labelling products to support usability.​
    • Create wireframes and interactive prototypes for user testing and iterate on solutions based on user feedback.​
    •  Organise and conduct effective user testing, including defining clear testing objectives, recruiting suitable test participants, and creating and following robust testing protocols.​
    • Translate user testing findings into actionable design improvements, leading to demonstrable enhancements in the products user experience over time.​
    • Collaborate with the product and engineering teams to ensure designs are feasible and solve identified user problems.​
    • Participate in the support and development of Coates’ design system and component libraries, ensuring they remain up-to-date, relevant and user focused.​
    • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and emerging technologies to keep our products and experiences cutting edge.​
    • Embed a culture of customer experience and design within the broader organization.​

Qualifications and Experience​

    • Degree in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communication, product, industrial), HCI, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.​
    • 2-3 years experience in a UX/UI/Product design role.​
    • Proficient in design software such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch.​
    • Experience in facilitating workshops and user testing.​
    • Experience employing iterative approaches to design and testing such as Agile, Double Diamond etc.​
    • Knowledge of modern web technologies and responsive design.​
    • Experience developing and deploying design systems.​
    • A strong portfolio of work that demonstrates your design thinking capabilities, showcasing how you delivered projects end to end, working on both sides of the double diamond.​

    • Creation of designs that solve current user needs and anticipate future trends and behaviours.​
    • Successful implementation of the design language across products to provide a cohesive user experience.​
    • Successful creation of accurate, representative personas, user journey maps, user flows and task flows that reflect real user behaviours, needs and goals.​
    • Successful planning execution, and facilitation of ideation workshops, leading to generation of innovative ideas and design concepts.​
    • Effective communication of design ideas and insights to various stakeholders.​
    • Successful conduction of user testing, ability to gather user feedback, and iterate on design solutions based on user data.​
    • Regular contributions of research findings and design trends into actionable insights to influence the product design process.​
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with different teams, promoting a shared understanding and consistent application of user centric design principles.​
    • Demonstrates a capability to learn from each iteration, incorporating user feedback and data to refine and enhance the design.​
    • Prototypes should not only meet the needs of the product but also stimulate constructive feedback and innovative ideas.​
    • Demonstrate capability to extract meaningful insights from user testing and translate them into actionable design improvements.​
    • Ability to ensure Design System relevance and effectiveness for the team and the consistency of the products UX design.​

Capabilities

    • Exceptional visual design skills with a strong portfolio of previous works.​
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and creativity.​
    • Proficiency in design, prototyping and wireframing tools.​
    • Ability to handle multiple projects.​
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate and present design decisions to a non technical audience.
