Toptal is hiring Senior UX Writer
Job Summary:
Toptal is looking for a Senior UX Writer to join our Content Marketing team. This person will be responsible for developing impactful, conversion-focused copy for new Toptal products and platforms.
We are looking for someone who is extremely well-versed in UX writing, content design best practices, and product conversion principles. You will write and present world-class product content that is optimized for business metrics, and will have the ability to achieve this while maintaining the brand voice and style across all platforms. You will also be an organized and capable multitasker, able to manage workflows, stick to timelines, and manage stakeholder expectations. We are seeking a relentless, creative problem solver who sweats the details, leverages data, is comfortable working with a style guide, and takes great pains to ensure copy is clean before hand-off.
As a Senior UX Writer at Toptal, you are expected to have end-to-end content ownership of your product or business area. You assume responsibility for the product’s customer-facing story and will liaise with stakeholders to identify what content types are needed, delegate writing responsibilities when appropriate, and ensure that content is developed on time and according to the expected quality standards.
In this role, you will report to the UX Writing Lead and will work cross-functionally with a team of Product Managers, Product Designers, Engineers, Editors, and Researchers to strategically communicate Toptal’s narrative and drive action.

Responsibilities:

• Write and edit copy for Toptal’s site, platforms, and portals to exceptional UX standards.
• Continuously elevate the quality of all customer-facing copy, ensuring it drives key business metrics, is clear and relevant, and compels the right user action.
• Develop content and content strategies tailored to Toptal’s various audiences, including clients and talent.
• Define and apply copy standards, ensuring that all users have a clear, consistent, and compelling experience.
• Collaborate with product designers and product managers to ensure that UX writing is optimized to achieve the specific key results associated with the given project.
• Where applicable, work with other writers and editors to craft the right content for the right moment in the user journey.
• Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to other team members. Educate cross-functional partners on the role of UX writing and content strategy in the product development process.
In the first week, expect to:

• Immerse yourself in your first writing projects.

• Meet other teams across Toptal that you’ll work with.
• Complete several content projects and get a better feel for the type of work you’ll be doing.
• Clarify and pressure-test different processes and workflows you’ll use when collaborating with other functions, while exercising discretion and independent judgment.
In the first three months, expect to:
• Become fully integrated into Toptal.
• Complete several initiatives that you’re proud of.
In the first six months, expect to:
• Strategize how to scale the work you do as Toptal grows.
• Handle an increasing workload and set of responsibilities.
In the first year, expect to:
• Be seen as an integral member of the team, always pushing the limits of what people believe is possible, and consistently up-level everything you touch.
Qualifications and Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Human Computer Interaction, or other relevant field is required.
• 7+ years of experience working as a UX Writer and/or Product Content Strategist for digital products.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, as well as perfect grammar and command of the English language.
• Proven experience and skill writing microcopy, scalable copy, and copy for full-funnel user journeys, including landing pages and emails.
• Experience with user testing and A/B testing, and ability to apply learnings to writing projects.
• Experience working with an in-house growth product team and UX/UI Designers to achieve success collectively.
• Experience in Figma (or similar design software); comfortable using JIRA.
• Demonstrable experience working with development teams and crafting content approaches that solve technical challenges.
• Experience managing feedback and stakeholder input.
• Comfortable working with ambiguous specifications and helping to provide clarity and find an effective path forward.
• Ability to easily identify user problems and provide content that solves those challenges.
• Experience working within a design system and with systems thinking.
• Ability to work with partners to understand detailed requirements and build copy flows for complete user experiences that balance stakeholder needs with UX best practices.
• Proactive and willing to chase down needed information; not easily dissuaded when obstacles get in the way.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly growing company and handle a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a diverse array of contacts.
