Your team

You will join our UX team as the new UX Lead. You will report to Ragnar, SkillLab’s Director of Product.

The other professionals that make up the UX team are Dimas and Lorenzo.

You will cooperate with our engineering, data science and product management teams, as well as our business and professional services & impact teams.

Your responsibilities

Lead UX strategy & team

• Provide strategic direction to evolve the user experience of SkillLab's products in line with our brand identity and business objectives
• Build a culture of product excellence across SkillLab, including adoption of user-centered approaches and data driven decision making
• Champion UX maturity across SkillLab, ensuring design excellence is embedded early in discovery, planning, and iterative delivery phases, with measurable impact on user satisfaction and business KPIs
• Build and run a high-performing team of UX Researchers and Designers, fully embodying a people leadership role within SkillLab. This includes creating growth paths, conducting performance evaluations, and providing mentorship that supports team members’ development within SkillLab’s leadership framework.

Focus on client needs and deliver value

• Ensure clients are satisfied and engaged with the UX work provided by the team
• Lead client co-design sessions and translate user insights into scalable product improvements tailored to diverse stakeholder environments

Drive innovation & ongoing UX improvement

• Guide the UX team in creating effective, accessible, and delightful experiences for SkillLab’s clients and users
• Ensure the team continuously improves UX processes, guidelines, tools, methodologies and best practices
• Maintain a hands-on approach in supporting product development through direct technical contributions

Coordinate UX efforts across SkillLab

• Facilitate coordination of UX work across client-specific project teams
• Build relationships with other internal teams and position UX as a strategic partner
• Facilitate internal rituals such as design reviews and cross-team UX demos to foster alignment and knowledge sharing across product, delivery, and engineering teams
• Allocate resources and estimate effort for UX research and design initiatives.

• At least 8+ years in different UX roles and additionally 2-3 years in a leadership role. Combined experience in building products in-house and working directly with clients will be highly appreciated
• Comprehensive knowledge of user-centered design methodologies, information architecture, interaction design, usability testing, UX tools, facilitation and workshop management, research methodologies and accessibility.
• Deep familiarity with managing complex, tokenized design systems
• Holistic understanding of metric-driven product development, including business goals, technical feasibility, and user needs, to drive strategic UX decisions
• Proven ability to build relationships, understand client needs, articulate UX strategies, manage client expectations and present design solutions. Experience in a client focused environment is a must
• Proven ability to work effectively in matrix organizations with product managers, engineers, researchers, and other stakeholders in client-specific project teams
• Proven ability to inspire, mentor, and develop a UX team

Extra awesome

• Experience in managing a multi-disciplinary UX team.
• Experience in Enterprise/SaaS/IT Solution product.

Salary & start-date

• We use a salary benchmark for the Dutch high-tech sector to set your salary based on your experience. We expect that the annual gross salary for the experience we are looking for ranges from 85k-100k Euro per year.
• We accept applications on a rolling basis, and we envision a start date as soon as possible.

• You will enjoy 25 paid vacation days per year (20 days as the statutory minimum holiday entitlement in the Netherlands plus 5 extra days from SkillLab).
• You can work flexibly from our office in Amsterdam and home within the Netherlands. You can also extend your holiday stay in a different country and work from abroad for a limited period of time.
• If you don’t live in the Netherlands, you will get an extensive relocation support to move to Amsterdam including visa sponsorship, 30% ruling application, your plane tickets, covered real estate agent fees, etc.
