This job post is over 2 months oldand may no longer be available.

På(fyll) is a new startup from OrklaÆra and Bakken & Bæck and we're on a mission to make everyday living easier while tackling a massive problem: the growing amount of plastic waste from household products. Our unique circular service delivers and picks up everyday products in refillable containers, right at your doorstep.

We are now looking to grow our purpose-driven, inclusive and flexible team. We are looking for a Product Designer to lead the process of discovering solutions for the needs of our customers.**

Who we are

About På(fyll)

På(fyll) is a new circular service from Orkla Home & Personal Care, that delivers your favourite everyday household products in refillable containers straight to your door. På(fyll) has been rigorously tested, and today we are serving our first paying customers across Norway. We have an enormous ambition of making zero-waste living easy and accessible for every individual in the Nordics within the next five years.

About the team

På(fyll) has been built so far with the help of partners at Æra Strategic Innovation and Bakken & Bæck. Now that we are close to achieving product-market fit, we are building out an internal, cross-functional product team that will drive the discovery and delivery of solutions. You would be the first member of that team, and this is an exciting opportunity to join the CTO in shaping its growth, culture and practices.

About the role

The Product Designer will play a key hands-on role in the growth and evolution of På(fyll)’s products based on user insight. You will be responsible for the discovery of solutions to meet user needs and deliver regular, incremental value. This will include design of our existing user-facing products and a new internal one for analysis of our operations and customer experience, which will provide the crucial foundation for our expansion plans.

Who we’re looking for

💡 It’s not expected that any single candidate would have expertise across all of the below areas - if you do, then great! But we’re expecting candidates to be particularly strong in a few areas and have the curiosity, drive and interest to develop new capabilities.

Most important is that you share our passion about sustainability and creating solutions to the global plastic waste problem.

This role is for you if

You are a strong generalist

  • You have 5+ years of experience designing digital products with expertise in one or two of the following areas (and solid knowledge of the others): visual design, interaction design, user research and testing, motion design, brand design and strategy.
  • You are comfortable working alone and you have a strong desire to collaborate in an interdisciplinary way.
  • You’re comfortable creating designs and prototypes in Figma.

You have excellent communication skills.

  • You articulate and document your process clearly, and can present your work and communicate your design decisions to a variety of stakeholders effectively.
  • You hold strong opinions loosely.
  • You believe that the responsibility for a message reaching its intended audience is on the transmitter not the receiver; you hear unspoken words as loudly as the spoken ones.

You are laser-focussed on creating value

  • You enter every problem space and view every pain point with the aim of delivering maximum value to the user, while meeting the needs of the business.
  • You have demonstrable experience in launching new products or shipping valuable features.
  • You are able to recognise when low-hanging fruit is a diversion from addressing the user’s most urgent and important needs and you are experienced in navigating and communicating that.
  • You are curious and empathic and take a human-centred approach to design.

You have a growth-oriented mindset

  • You recognise - and are totally honest about - what you don’t know as well as what you do.
  • You cherish individual and collective failures as an essential element of the learning process.
  • You are constantly looking for ways to improve.

You are comfortable with complexity and ambiguity

  • You are curious, open-minded and excited about diving into more complex challenges that need to be researched and tested to discover the best solutions.
  • You have demonstrated the ability to take on and shape large, undefined projects and find solutions that are viable, feasible, usable and delightful.

You take the initiative

  • You don’t wait for tasks to land in your lap - you are constantly on the lookout for opportunities to close gaps and create value.
  • You have a bias for action, even in the face of incomplete information.
  • You know intuitively when to move fast and when to slow down.

You are open and transparent in your work and process

  • You recognise that there is no such thing as a perfect idea, nor a finished design.
  • You are happy working “in the open” and sharing solutions iteratively at various stages of their development.
  • You see the ideal process of discovery as a co-creative one.

You can work at pace, across multiple projects

  • While you value deep work, you are experienced in - and pragmatic about - the competing demands in a startup.
  • You have the ability to handle multiple projects while executing at a high level.
  • You can context-switch effectively when you really need to.

You set a high bar for quality, yet recognise “good enough” when you see it

  • You believe that quality should be carefully considered at every stage of the product development process - and that QA is more than just testing in the delivery phase.
  • You recognise that, at times, it’s the fine details in a design that really make the difference, whereas, at others, they represent diminishing returns on your effort.

Bonus points if you

  • Have product design experience in an e-commerce context
  • Have experience working with CRMs and/or business insights tooling
  • Know your way around code
  • Are based in a timezone 2h +/- Central European Time (CET) (or are willing to align your working day with traditional working hours in that timezone)

What we can offer

As an emerging brand, På(fyll) offers the opportunity and creative freedom for you to have a massive impact on our product development from day one. You’ll be contributing to a large-scale solution to plastic waste that can have a real impact. In addition, you will get the opportunity to work with many more creative and skilled colleagues with På(fyll) partners — Orkla, Bakken & Bæck, Æra and Form Us With Love.

We aim to provide a flexible, remote-first, psychologically-safe environment and we have a working space in Oslo, Norway that you are free to visit and use. We recognise the need to feel mastery, autonomy and purpose in one’s work in order to thrive - you’ll have the freedom to shape what that looks like for yourself and to contribute to conversations about what that looks like for us as a growing, distributed team. You’ll be a valued part of a team that cares about outcomes, not output.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits that align with and support our values, like allowances for personal learning and development, conference attendance and home office equipment, as well as regular in-person gatherings.

How to apply

💜 At På(fyll), above all, we value folks who work with courage, compassion, and curiosity. We recognise that folks from diverse backgrounds will often, naturally, follow diverse paths to wisdom and we encourage you to apply even if your experience isn’t an exact fit with the job description. Your skills, passion and resilience could be a great attribute to our team and we’d appreciate the opportunity to judge that for ourselves. 😊

We have an enormous ambition to make zero-waste living easy and accessible for every individual in the Nordics within the next five years. If this excites you and you have the drive to help make På(fyll) a success story, we encourage you to apply. If our mission excites you, and you want to be part of a dynamic, growing team driving systemic change to build a more sustainable world then please submit a CV and portfolio of relevant work along with a short letter that outlines your interest and qualifications. Oh, and we love eating together when we get the chance so, while you’re at it, why not tell us what food you’d bring to the table if we prepared a team lunch together? 😋

Deadline: Although there is no fixed deadline, we would like to find our new collaborator as quickly as possible. We are accepting applications on a rolling basis and will close the position as soon as we find someone who is a great fit.

If you would like more information or just to have a conversation, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Carlton (CTO, På(fyll)) at carlton@pafyll.com.
