UI/UX Designer

Our mission is to create human-centered services. We’re a coalition of digital gov alums who partner with governments and mission-driven organizations to design and build digital services that improve people’s lives. We help our partners build internal, sustainable capacity to transform how they deliver services. 

We are looking for a UI/UX Designer to work on a cross-functional team — that includes our partners — to design better public services. We partner with state, local, and federal governments, nonprofit organizations, and other companies delivering critical services to help research and design how to improve technology improvements. Current projects include: reforming government hiring processes, strengthening supports for foster youth, empowering internal teams to diagnose and respond to agency challenges, reforming organ donation and , improving access to behavioral health services…just to name a few.

In this role, you will: 

  • Produce design artifacts that guide development, including mockups, wireframes, high fidelity prototypes, flowcharts, journey maps, service blueprints, storyboards, or doodles 

  • Utilize design systems to design digital products that will be used across devices 

  • Integrate findings from research interviews and usability testing

  • Balance product/program goals and user needs

  • Champion usability and accessibility best practices

  • Work collaboratively with content strategists, researchers, product managers, and engineers to create beautiful and impactful products

  • Navigate complex situations with empathy and kindness, and work to build inclusive partnership with diverse groups of people

  • Advocate for what you see as necessary for the project and the end user

  • Employ systems-thinking and maintain awareness of how new features will impact a service as a whole

  • Jump into projects at various stages, from discovery to delivery

  • Think creatively and employ a human-centered design process

  • Do user research and design in a variety of situations and across different user types to provide insights for tech and policy interventions

What we're looking for:

  • At least 5 years of experience designing technology products and services

  • Experience navigating complex systems or working on public service delivery

  • Ability to communicate clearly and increase transparency, with a strong competency in situational awareness and conflict resolution

  • An adaptive, proactive, tenacious, and positive mindset

  • Experience working in an agile, iterative way

  • Empathetic, collaborative, communicative and able to adapt in the face of constraints

Hourly rate: $100-$135
