Talis Education software helps universities and colleges connect teaching and learning in meaningful and productive ways. Over the last few years we've been growing fast, with over two million students around the world using our software.
We are looking for a UI/UX Designer to help us create great product experiences, joining an established Experience Team who look after our enterprise products. You will be a versatile designer whose responsibilities include gathering user requirements, designing graphic elements and building navigation components.
To be successful in this role, you should have experience with design software and wireframe tools. If you also have a portfolio of professional design projects that include work with web/mobile applications, we’d like to meet you.
Although our offices are based in central Birmingham, all of our roles allow a degree of home working depending on specific requirements as set by your peers and reports. The manager for this role is Bristol based so applications from UX/UI designers between Bristol and Birmingham are welcome.
Responsibilities include
Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with product managers and engineers
Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows and sitemaps
Design graphic user interface elements, like menus, tabs and widgets
Build page navigation buttons and search fields
Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how sites function and look like
Create original graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches)
Prepare and present rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders
Identify and troubleshoot UX problems (e.g. responsiveness)
Conduct layout adjustments based on user feedback
Adhere to design language whilst also helping to evolve it
Working on our education led enterprise products, you will have experience building both for B2B and B2C scale products, we have over 1 million users.
You will understand the challenges of building good quality design, understand how to understand and test user requirements.
Joining a team of 2, a front end developer and manager, You will spend most of your time on UI Design and execution but will have input into a wider field of UX.
Able to work with customers/Internal product managers to create briefs, questions underlying principles and manage their own workstreams.
In August 2018 we were acquired by SAGE Publications, who are a major global academic publisher. This marks the next chapter in our growth, with plans to invest and more than double our turnover in the next three years.
Although the company is now owned by a larger parent, it maintains the identity and culture of an independently run business, with the pre-acquisition management team still in place.

REQUIREMENTS
Your job is to work with the rest of the experience team to ensure new features – and new products – delight customers and are of high quality.
Proven work experience as a UI/UX Designer or similar role
Portfolio of design projects
Knowledge of wireframe/prototyping tools (e.g. InVision)
Up-to-date knowledge of design software like Sketch or Invision Studio
Team spirit; strong communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders
Good time-management skills
A strong interest in UX design principles
