Who We Are
SewerAI is revolutionizing an antiquated industry. We use AI and cloud technology to transform the way cities across North America maintain their sewer infrastructure, making communities safer and water cleaner.  We are a Series B, investor-backed startup with many prominent, paying customers. Our Web application and AI/machine learning tools are in real-world use in environments ranging from large engineering firms to sewer inspection vans parked on city streets. 

Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Product Designer to be a champion for our customers and own the user experience for our complex, B2B web application. In our first several years in the market we have demonstrated to the wastewater inspection industry what modern, cloud software can look like and deliver. We have created a cohort of loyal evangelists. Now, we need to ensure that a growing user base has clean, positive experiences with our software day in and day out. As we introduce new products that nobody else offers and prioritize requests from our diverse B2B customers, we want you to help us clearly define and prioritize UX problems. You must be collaborative and an effective communicator, but very much ready to lead. You love to talk to users and understand their day to day experiences. You are strong in big picture thinking and formulating novel approaches. You are diligent about information hierarchy, discoverability, and intuitiveness. You are also detail-oriented, ensuring we consider all the edge cases and user paths. Internally, you will make strong cases for why we need to tackle certain problems and how to approach them. You will engage actively and daily with Product, Engineering, the CEO and our Customer Success teams. You will also You have to work well within a small, dynamic, remote team - your core interactions will be about 10 people in a company of 40 - but also be able to create your own priorities and work independently. Experience designing complex Web applications is required, and an understanding of infrastructure, government, industry, field / edge applications, and AI/ML would be viewed favorably.

What will you do?
--Interface with our users consistently and engagingly. Make use of our loyal user base, regular customer meetings, and in-app chat to understand everything possible about our customers’ needs. Capitalize on an internal core of users who utilize the application every day to execute their work. While the focus of the role is not structured research, be prepared to interview lots of users. Create detailed user flows, wireframes, and prototypes to address user, product, and business needs. Manage the complexities of our product in your design work.
--Dig into our product analytics and live logging sessions to understand customer behavior.
--Define pain points in the customer journey.
--Collaborate with the Head of Product to brainstorm, evaluate, and prioritize products and features. Help carry them from ideas to experiments to UX wireframes to prototypes and mockups.
--Help define the need for additional design resources. Briefing, selecting and managing freelance designers or researchers in support of this role.
--Develop and maintain a comprehensive component library in collaboration with front-end engineers
--Be a champion for good user experience and help us grow into our next phase of maturity as our user base explodes.

Specifically what we’re looking for
---Bachelors’ degree5+ years as a Product Designer or similar title
--Coherent portfolio of software design projects, with SaaS and business to business (B2B) experience required.
--Government/enterprise experience strongly preferred.
--Highly skilled in carrying product features from brainstorming to UX wireframes to low fidelity UI mockups
--Experience contributing to a design system featuring reusable components
--Experience creating and testing clickable prototypes
--Experience at a smaller, fast-moving organization where collaboration and communication are highly valued and you are expected to make your voice heard
--Experience working with the front-end engineering team and sensitivity to implementation constraints
--Commitment to modern software development practices such as source control, continuous integration/continuous deployment, automated testing, and agile development

Location
SewerAI is headquartered in Walnut Creek, CA. This hybrid role requires part-time attendance at our office, offering a blend of in-person and remote work.
$140,000 - $150,000 a year
