This is a hybrid position with an average of 8 days per month in the office. You can be based in our WRI Europe office in London or The Hague. This is a 12-month fixed-term role with the potential to extend.

 

About the Program:

 

The Data Lab exists to inspire and fuel data innovation, product development, and technical infrastructure for World Resources Institute (WRI) and our community. We work with our partners to use advances in data and technology to improve lives, protect nature, and ensure just transitions. The Data Lab is composed of WRI’s core Engineering, Product, and Data teams and supports a wide network of quantitative researchers, data scientists and policy analysts embedded across the organization. About some of the products you will work on: TerraMatch, Land and Carbon Lab. Through its online platform, the TerraMatch team identifies the world’s best locally-led tree-growing organizations, screens their project proposals according to industry-leading criteria, and provides them with technical assistance to improve their impact. For projects that successfully raise capital from TerraMatch’s associated funds, the team tracks their progress over time by deploying innovative monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) techniques. The Land & Carbon Lab is an innovation platform for geospatial data and monitoring of the world’s land and nature-based carbon. We harness breakthroughs in geospatial monitoring to help governments, businesses, and communities worldwide deploy solutions for sustainable landscapes on the ground.

 

Job Highlight:

 

Reporting to the Senior Product Manager, Product Studio, you will collaborate across our environmental software products (TerraMatch, Land & Carbon Lab and others). Working with development agencies, program partners, and the Data Lab, you'll design user experiences that are useful, usable, beautiful, and impactful. You'll champion human-centered design and support our move to in-house software design. 

 

What will you do:

 

UX research and design foundations (80%):

 

  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to understand user needs and pain points through user research

  • Craft user journeys and sitemaps to optimize product flow and identify potential UX issues

  • Translate research and data into clear and visually compelling interfaces for TerraMatch, Land & Carbon Lab, and other key Data Lab products. Crafting purposeful and intuitive interfaces

  • Craft meticulous UI mock-ups and prototypes in Figma that clearly illustrate how our scientific geospatial tools function and look

  • Ensure brand consistency across all software products

  • Collaborate with product managers and Research, Data and Impact to learn about, document and uphold WRI’s research integrity standards as these relate to user interfaces

  • Stay up-to-date on design trends and best practices in the environmental software space.

 

Champion WRI’s design standards and user-centered design principles (20%):

 

  • Prepare and present your design drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders for feedback and implementation

  • Partner with development agencies and internal teams to ensure successful execution of your designs

  • Advocate for a user-centered design approach within the Data Lab

  • Own and maintain the design systems for TerraMatch, Land & Carbon Lab, collaborating with the wider WRI Design Standards working group

  • Support WRI's transition to in-house software design and development.

 

What will you need:

 

  • Education: You have completed a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or 3 additional years of experience

  • Experience: You have 3+ years of full-time working experience in UX/UI Design with a portfolio that displays your expertise, attention to detail and thought process 

  • 1+ years of experience designing with Figma

  • Experience creating wireframes, flow diagrams, storyboards, mock-ups, and prototypes to show your design solutions

  • Experience implementing and working with a design system and component libraries

  • Demonstrable knowledge of UX principles and best practices

  • Experience delivering designs which align with client brand vision and stakeholders’ aesthetic standards

  • Some experience conducting user research

  • Experience with map-based interfaces and scientific data applications is desired

  • Languages: You have verbal and written proficiency in English

  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to support visa work authorization.

 

Potential Salary: 

 

If based in the UK: 38,000 – 45,000 GBP. 

If based in the Netherlands: 49,000 – 58,000

 

Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
