Permanent/Full Time

Salary: £40,000 - £55,000 per annum

We are looking for a Product Designer to join our talented team to help our clients design meaningful experiences for their audiences.

About Us

AKQA Leap are digital product specialists within the AKQA Group network (WPP), with studios in London and Bristol.

We believe that quality is the fastest path to success. So whether we're launching, fixing or scaling a product, we get it right the first time. Some call it the magic touch. We call it quality at speed.

For over a decade, we’ve been designing, developing, and launching quality digital products for businesses like Google, Spotify and Vodafone.

People-focused. Curious. Always growing. These are just some of the values AKQA Leap upholds to cultivate an open, committed, and inclusive studio where you can be you. From the moment we meet, we’ll do our best to get to know you and understand what drives you. Our goal? To empower you to thrive and develop.

We aspire to push boundaries and craft purposeful products that people love. What truly matters is what you create, not where you create it—whether you feel in the flow working from home, or seek some company at our London or Bristol studios, we give you the freedom to work in a location and in the way that inspires you most.

About the Role

Our purpose in the Design team is to help our clients design meaningful experiences for their audiences. We do that by:

  • Combining our expertise with experimentation, to balance user needs, best practices & innovation.
  • Co-creating and continuously learning, to design with empathy, insight and confidence.
  • Supporting, challenging and learning as a community, to accelerate our professional growth.

As a midweight Product Designer, you'll join our dynamic team to deliver high-quality design solutions on projects while growing your expertise in both Visual Design and Experience Design, under the guidance of a senior practitioner. You'll play a vital role in crafting thoughtful design deliverables, contributing to our commitment to creating purposeful, human-centred products.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver thoughtful design deliverables and artefacts for client projects with support and oversight from a senior practitioner, including wireframes, user flows, UI, visual assets and prototypes.
  • Independently execute design tasks within your scope.
  • Present your work and rationale to the project team and clients when appropriate, articulating how designs meet business, user, and technical requirements.
  • Participate in collaborative design processes, contributing to activities such as workshops, sketching sessions, persona development, and customer journey mapping.
  • Translate solutions into tangible design artefacts using common design patterns, established brand guidelines, and service flows.
  • Generate multiple design solutions and select the most suitable option based on user-focused rationale, ensuring usability, accessibility, and consistency.
  • Work closely with other designers, developers, product managers and stakeholders to refine and iterate on design solutions.
  • Utilise tools like Figma and Miro for design creation and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with your line manager to define and set career goals aligned with your aspirations.
  • Utilise Learning & Development time to proactively seek opportunities for personal and career growth.
  • Actively participate in Design Community activities and initiatives, to support the vision and growth of the community.
  • Contribute to internal projects and initiatives, to further develop your capabilities.

About You

You're a detail-oriented designer with a passion for creating user-centred design solutions. You excel at taking solutions to a problem and translating them using common design patterns, established brand guideline components, or common service flows. You thrive in collaborative environments, generating multiple solutions and choosing the most appropriate based on a user-focused rationale. The design artefacts you supply are usable, accessible, and consistent down to the letter, fact, and pixel. Your ability to adapt to various design challenges and your eagerness to learn and grow make you an ideal candidate for our Product Designer role.

  • Your earnest and inquisitive approach to collaboration reflects our value of curiosity, driving you to seek innovative solutions to challenges.
  • You thrive in supportive working environments, prioritising the well-being of your colleagues, in line with our people-focused culture.
  • Your appreciation for diverse perspectives and authenticity fosters an inclusive atmosphere, elevating our work and culture.
  • You believe in the purposeful nature of design, striving to improve people’s lives through user-centred products that make a real difference.
  • You're committed to continual growth, always seeking opportunities to improve your craft and yourself, aligning with our value of always growing.
  • Clients can depend on you to deliver on your promises, reflecting our value of reliability.

You Should Have

  • A portfolio showcasing your design thinking skills and previous projects.
  • Experience in creating UX design artefacts and high-fidelity designs for digital products.
  • Collaborated with other designers and/or developers in previous projects.
  • An understanding of design systems, brand guidelines, user flows, and wireframing.
  • Experience in combining new and existing components of a design system.
  • Previous employment as a Designer in an established Design team.
  • Confidence in sharing design rationale with team members.
  • Experience in Figma, Miro or similar design tools.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow.

Ideally Also

  • Understanding of web/mobile technologies.
  • Ability to communicate rationale that considers business, user, and technical requirements.
  • Examples of visual assets such as illustrations, iconography and pictograms.
  • Experience with Agile, Sprints, and Lean UX methodologies.
  • Familiarity with research methods and designing with available insights.

We know that no candidate will be the exact match for all we’ve listed, so we would encourage you to apply if you feel you might be close but not a perfect match for all of the role’s requirements.
