Role Title: Principal Product Designer
Location: Cork, Ireland Hybrid
Role Overview:
As a Principal Product Designer at Canto, you will play a key role in our platform design transformation, advancing our design systems, and our accessibility programs. You will partner closely with our Design team and Product and Engineering leadership across our US and Ireland teams to help shape the product’s future direction while continuing to be deeply hands-on in craft and execution.
This is a collaborative, high-trust role - ideal for someone who leads through influence, clarity, and example.
What You will be Doing
- Apply and advocate systems thinking - designing holistically across the Canto ecosystem and helping others see the bigger picture.
- Help define and evolve design system strategy and governance, ensuring quality, accessibility, and scalability.
- Collaborate with global design, engineering and product leaders to help set and refine the North Star design vision for our platform - balancing contextual and conversational AI in an evolving agentic experience model.
- Lead modernisation initiatives such as UI redesigns, accessibility upgrades (WCAG 2.2 AA), internationalization, and post-acquisitions for UX unification.
- Mentor Designers, cultivating high standards of craft, operations and systems literacy.
- Partner with engineering and product leadership designing AI-powered features such as workflows, actions, and automation.
- Explore and operationalise AI-assisted design workflows (e.g., Claude, Figma Make, Lovable, Cursor) to accelerate user feedback, iteration, experimentation and speed to customer outcomes.
- Craft and communicate design strategy and systems rationale clearly across teams and executive leadership, aligning stakeholders, elevating UX priorities and understanding.
Qualifications & experiences required to be successful in this role:
- 10+ years designing complex SaaS or platform products.
- Deep expertise in systems design, information architecture, and cross-product coherence.
- Proven leadership in design system creation, scaling, and governance & leading accessibility programs (AA or AAA) – with case study and/or portfolio examples.
- Experience designing Agentic UX, AI actions, workflows or automation design.
- Portfolio that demonstrates exceptional visual design and UI craft - creating clean, modern, intuitive UIs that bring delight, clarity, and cohesiveness across flows; raising the visual standard across product via polished, thoughtful aesthetics.
- Practical understanding of AI-driven design tooling and workflows.
- Strong mentorship ability - respected for elevating and unifying others rather than commanding direction.
- Experience collaborating across globally distributed teams.
- Clear communicator who builds alignment across all levels, from executive leadership to technical and non-technical stakeholders, through transparency, collaboration and shared intent.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with the DAM or Martech ecosystem.
- Thought leadership and published work in systems design, accessibility, design systems or agentic UX design.
- Experience or interest in shipping front-end code directly to production using AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) in collaboration with engineering teams.
