About Civic Roundtable

We’re Civic Roundtable – a mission-driven, venture-backed startup (supported by General Catalyst) that makes government more integrated and effective through technology. We build tools for government workers on the frontlines of public problems that matter to all of us, from preventing homelessness in our communities to administering our elections.

Civic Roundtable is a government operations platform purpose-built for local, state, and federal government agencies and their partner organizations. Founded by a team with extensive government experience and the belief that the public sector is a force for good, Civic Roundtable is the foundational technology for a more integrated and effective government.

With Roundtable, wide networks of government agencies and partner organizations can consolidate existing data repositories and disseminate mission-critical information in real time. This facilitates government collaboration by empowering public servants with the information, answers, and peer expertise they need, when and how they need it, to serve their communities.

Backed by General Catalyst and trusted by public servants at over 1,500 agencies in all 50 states, the company emerged from the Harvard Innovation Labs to modernize how millions of government workers across 90,000 agencies achieve their mission. Roundtable is built on AWS GovCloud.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Visual Designer to build and own our visual language across product, marketing, and communications. This is a craft-driven role for someone who cares deeply about cohesion, clarity, and polish — and who wants to define our brand’s look and feel as Civic Roundtable grows. You will be the primary owner of our visual identity and the go-to expert on all things style and branding.

You’ll ensure every touchpoint, from presentations to landing pages to interfaces, feels purposeful and distinctly “us.” You’ll define standards and guidelines that are easy for teams to apply, and collaborate closely with product design to ensure visual direction aligns with our product UX, accessibility, and developer ergonomics.

What You’ll Do

Brand & Visual Identity

  • Create, refine, and maintain the company’s visual identity via illustration, type, color, iconography, motion, patterns, and marks.

  • Build and document visual guidelines, usage rules, and asset libraries that are clear, scalable, and easy for teams to adopt.

  • Ensure consistent and intentional brand expression across all channels.

  • Develop engaging, lightweight motion assets for use in marketing and in product.

Marketing & Communications Design

  • Translate brand voice and messaging into clear, compelling visual assets and patterns.

  • Design materials including landing pages, social visuals, decks, case studies, ads, event collateral, and internal documents.

  • Collaborate with marketing and deployment teams to deliver materials that tell our story and support our customers.

Product UI

  • Contribute to product interface work, including component-level styling, visual refinements, and high-fidelity UI mockups.

  • Provide visual polish to elevate UX work and ensure a cohesive product look and feel.

  • Partner with product design to ensure visual systems support accessibility, legibility, coherence, and developer ergonomics.

What We’re Looking For

  • A master of the craft – Hyperreal and caricature. Painting, drawing, and sculpture. You have a deep understanding of the foundations of visual form, and you know how to dissect, explore, and emulate a wide range of styles to meet the needs at hand.

  • A visual storyteller – You know how to take complex ideas and abstract messaging and turn them into clean, compelling visuals.

  • Technical curiosity – Technical things don’t scare you — they’re just the underpinnings of digital art. Fractals, color models, vector networks, AI — it fascinates you and helps you more deeply understand your work.

  • Strong language instincts – You have firm command of written English. You can draft and refine copy as part of your design work, catch phrasing or grammar issues, and suggest improvements to clarity, tone, and length as needed.

  • Startup-ready & scrappy – You thrive in fast-moving environments and can execute independently. You are collaborative, proactive, responsive, and good at managing priorities.

Who You Are

  • 7+ years of experience in visual or brand design (ideally in-house, in a small tech environment).

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating art direction, illustration, brand identity, motion, and high-fidelity UI work.

  • Experience designing within product constraints — engineering realities, design systems, accessibility needs — in close collaboration with product managers and product designers.

  • Excellent command of Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Experience with Lottie/Rive, or other modern web motion tools.

  • Experience executing within Webflow sites, including tokenized class systems, responsive layouts, interactions, and motion.

  • You don't need to code, but you understand technical mechanics and can creatively work within them.

Why You’ll Love Working @ Civic Roundtable

  • ⭐ You’ll get to own and shape our visual brand, establishing what a modern tech company made for the government can and should look like.

  • ⭐ You’ll have the opportunity to grow into a leadership role as we scale.

  • ⭐ You’ll work on real, mission-driven challenges that make government more effective.

  • ⭐ You’ll help shape the culture and direction of a fast-growing, venture-backed startup.

  • ⭐ Competitive salary + meaningful equity as one of our first 20 employees.

Note:

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. If you’re passionate about building great products and making a difference, we want to hear from you!

Compensation Range: $130K - $150K
