Senior Product Designer
Brodie Rec. League™

Type: Full-Time | Permanent
Location: Toronto, ON
Salary: $100,000 to $140,000 CAD annually
Reports to: Product Design Director

COMPANY OVERVIEW

50,000+ athletes. 22+ locations. Millions of views.

Brodie League is more than a basketball league — it's a community. As one of North America's fastest-growing sports brands, Brodie League is redefining adult recreational basketball by delivering an elevated, professional-quality experience rooted in culture, competition, and community. Our mission is to make every league night the best night of the week for our athletes.

We're building a hybrid platform where physical sport meets digital experience — a mobile app, admin operations system, registration portal, and content engine that together serve 50,000+ athletes across 20+ cities.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We're looking for a Senior Product Designer to own the design of Brodie's digital products. This is a high-ownership, high-impact role at the centre of everything we build — our mobile app (iOS/Android), admin portal, registration flows, and web presence.

You won't be designing in isolation. You'll work directly with our CEO, engineering team, and Design Director to ship features that directly impact how 50,000+ athletes experience Brodie every week. You'll take a feature from problem to wireframe to high-fidelity prototype to shipped product — and then iterate based on real user behaviour.

The right person is a systems thinker who designs fast, communicates clearly, and uses modern tools — including AI — to multiply their output. You prototype quickly, ship iteratively, and care more about impact than perfection.

We need someone who can step in and immediately contribute across our product surface area while helping us level up our design practice.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

1. Mobile App Design (Primary Focus)

The Brodie app is the core product athletes interact with daily. You'll own the design of new features and the continuous improvement of existing ones.

Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end user flows for new features (events, gamification, social feeds, messaging, onboarding)

  • Create high-fidelity screens and interactive Figma prototypes

  • Work with engineering to ensure pixel-perfect implementation

  • Conduct design QA on TestFlight and staging builds

  • Iterate based on user feedback, analytics, and session data

Current Priorities

  • Event creation and discovery flow

  • Home dashboard redesign (awards, badges, challenges, activity feed)

  • Drop-in runs and program registration

  • Gamification system (leveling, achievements, rivals)

  • Checkout engine and payment integration

2. Admin Portal & Operations Tools

Our internal tools power 500+ games per week across 20+ locations. You'll design dashboards and workflows that make our operations team faster.

Responsibilities

  • Design and improve admin dashboards for league management

  • Create intuitive workflows for commissioners, schedulers, and ops leads

  • Simplify complex data (standings, financials, player management) into clean interfaces

  • Work with engineering to prioritize admin improvements

3. Web & Registration

Our website and registration portal are how athletes discover and join Brodie. You'll ensure these experiences are seamless and conversion-optimized.

Responsibilities

  • Design and iterate on registration flows (mobile-first)

  • Improve location pages, program listings, and marketing landing pages

  • Support partnership and sponsor page design as needed

4. Design System & Brand Consistency

You'll help maintain and evolve Brodie's design system to ensure consistency across all digital products.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and extend our component library in Figma

  • Ensure brand consistency across app, web, admin, and marketing materials

  • Create reusable patterns and templates that scale

  • Document design decisions and standards

HOW WE EXPECT YOU TO WORK

AI-Native Design

We don't just want someone who knows Figma. We want someone who uses AI to work at 2–3x the speed of a traditional designer. This means:

  • Figma + AI plugins — Using tools like Figma Make, Lovable, or similar to accelerate wire-framing, prototyping and layout generation

  • Cursor / AI-assisted development — ability to explore prototyping in code, build quick front-end demos, or collaborate directly with engineers using AI-assisted dev tools

  • AI for research and content — Using AI to accelerate design research, generate copy drafts, analyze user flows, synthesize research, and create design documentation

  • Generative design tools — Comfortable with AI image generation for mockup assets, placeholder content, and visual exploration

  • Automation mindset — Always looking for ways to eliminate repetitive work through templates, plugins, and AI workflows

Speed & Iteration

  • We ship iteratively, not in big reveals. You'll push work live in small, frequent releases

  • 72-hour design sprints are normal here. We move at startup speed with the quality bar of a premium brand

  • You're comfortable making decisions with 80% information and refining in production

  • Communication & Collaboration

  • You annotate your work clearly — every Figma file tells a story

  • You present design decisions with rationale, not just aesthetics

  • You proactively flag blockers, trade-offs, and scope risks

  • You work closely with engineering — you understand constraints and speak their language

REQUIREMENTS

Must Have

  • 5+ years of product design experience (mobile-first preferred)

  • Expert-level Figma skills (components, auto-layout, prototyping, design systems)

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product design (not just UI skins)

  • Experience designing for consumer apps with real users at scale

  • Demonstrated use of AI tools in your design workflow

  • Ability to create interactive prototypes that communicate complex flows

  • Experience working in fast-paced, startup or high-growth environments

  • Excellent visual design skills — typography, layout, colour, spacing

  • Strong communication skills — written and verbal

  • 5 days a week in-office at our Toronto HQ - Brodie has thrived due to a culture of collaboration and teamwork in office

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Cursor, VS Code, or front-end prototyping (HTML/CSS/React)

  • Background in sports, fitness, community, or marketplace products

  • Experience with design QA and working directly with mobile engineers

  • Familiarity with analytics tools (Mixpanel, Amplitude, Hotjar)

  • Experience building or maintaining design systems from scratch

  • Motion design skills (Lottie, After Effects, Rive)

SUCCESS METRICS

You will be measured on:

  • Speed of delivery — features designed and shipped per sprint

  • Design quality — consistency, polish, and user experience scores

  • Engineering handoff quality — reduction in back-and-forth during implementation

  • Feature impact — measurable improvement in signups, engagement, or retention tied to your work

  • AI adoption — demonstrable use of AI tools to accelerate output

  • File organization — clean, well-documented Figma files that any team member can navigate

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary Range: $100,000 to $140,000 CAD annually

Compensation is based on skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and business needs. The compensation range may be adjusted in the future.

WHY JOIN BRODIE LEAGUE

  • Comprehensive health and wellness plan

  • Access to a yearly Brodie takeover of the Toronto Raptors court

  • Significant growth and mentorship opportunities

  • Professional development budget

  • Free Brodie League membership

  • Work on a product used by 50,000+ athletes every week

  • Details regarding our full benefits package will be provided during the interview process

GROWTH PATH

Senior Product Designer → Lead Product Designer → Product Design Director

As Brodie scales to 100,000+ athletes and expands into new sports and markets, this role grows with it. You'll have the opportunity to build and lead a design team, define product strategy, and shape the future of recreational sports.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

This isn't a design role at a faceless SaaS company. Every screen you design directly impacts how tens of thousands of athletes experience sport every week. You'll see your work in action at gyms across the country. You'll hear feedback from real users who care deeply about the product. We’re designing digital experiences that elevate community first IRL experiences for our athletes.

We're building a category — the operating system for recreational sport. The design of that system matters more than anything. Done well, this becomes one of the most creatively fulfilling and high-leverage roles in the company.
