UI/UX Designer 

About This Role

You will join a talented and motivated engineering team to, along with an engineering lead and product lead, creatively direct day-to-day visual design and user experience. You will work with stakeholders to understand our prospective and current members, conducting usability evaluations to recommend world-class product solutions based on real-world user feedback.

 

The person in this role is expected to both work individually and collaborate deeply with product managers and developers to design compelling product prototypes, polished interfaces and ready-to-build designs to hand off to engineering, while leading visual and final production design as needed. 

 

You will play a key role in brainstorming, ideation sessions, research and communication. In these sessions, you will be expected to advocate for the user, providing guidance on best-in-class design and user experience principles. You will maintain high standards of design and be an ambassador for digital design within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Establish visual creative direction for digital products in Japan

  • Ship world-class interfaces

  • Design wireframes, prototypes, interaction studies, and polished visual interfaces

  • Conduct research and provide data-driven decisions

  • Make decisions on a variety of matters consistent with goals and objectives of group

  • Manages personal duties and areas of responsibility on a day-to-day basis with periodic assistance and direction from others

  • Is able to function independently with minimal oversight and direction

  • Assignments range from focused to broad in nature and scope

  • May play significant role in marketing, customer outreach, correspondence and training

Technical requirements

  • Fluency in best practices for responsive web design and mobile user interfaces

  • Strong knowledge of information architecture

  • Mastery of Sketch, Photoshop

  • Careful attention to details, pixel perfection and visual form

  • Knowledge of rapid prototyping tools, such as InVision, Principle, Flinto

  • Working knowledge of interactive design

  • Experience working with engineers

  • Understanding of the technical development / engineering process, or ability to code a plus.

 

 

Non-technical requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Fluent in English

  • Japanese language abilities a plus

  • Senior thought leadership around industry trends

  • Thrive in a fast-paced work environment that requires independent self-direction with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication

  • Demonstrate initiative, self-confidence, energy, and an eagerness to learn

  • Present ideas, expectations and information in a concise and well-organized way

  • Ability to think creatively and challenge preconceived notions around UI/UX

  • Demonstrates passion and excitement for the opportunity to solve some of the industry’s biggest user problems that exist beyond the pixels on a screen
