UI Designer

Verblio

Psst. Hey you. Yeah you! Are you an experienced designer with a passion for both UX/UI and graphic design? Someone who loves collaborating with super smart, driven and fun people at a startup that’s growing like crazy and making a positive impact on the world? Would you describe yourself as curious and resourceful?  Are you passionate about improving the experience of your users AND your team? Can you appreciate a good pun? No? Oh. Okay. You can stop reading now.

Okay, so now that the nos are gone… HI! Darn right you’re interested. Let’s talk details.

A little bit about us

We’ve got something really exciting going on here at Verblio. We are transforming the world of work and the world of marketing at the same time. And despite the global dumpster fire that was 2020, our full-tilt growth and grandiose plans for world domination have shown zero signs of slowing down.

What do we actually DO though? Well, in case you haven’t heard, content is at the core of successful modern marketing—but it’s really hard to create quality content, particularly at scale. Many companies can’t staff for the time, talent and flexibility they need to harness the power of content. So, we introduce our community of over 3,000 pro writers to the digital agencies, businesses, enterprises, and publishers who need them most, through our easy-to-use marketplace platform. We brew this powerful SaaS + marketplace potion led by a 20-year marketplace industry veteran and staffed with a team of energetic, eclectic startup junkies, writing enthusiasts, and random liberal arts degree collectors.

And we have a LOT to do. To harness the incredible opportunities before us, we need to speed the development of our platform while differentiating it with an awesome user experience and a beautiful visual design.

That’s where you come in.

We’re looking for a designer who…

  • ...can’t decide whether they like UX, UI or visual design more
  • ...has excellent  graphic design and typography skills
  • ...is excited to help drive the creative vision of our brand identity and app design, with one eye toward brand consistency and the other toward evolution
  • ...prioritizes like a ninja, driving toward resolution even when juggling multiple projects
  • ...is equally able to execute their own work or direct and mentor others
  • ...loves to use research, data and swiped inspiration to inform strategic and conceptual solutions
  • ...eats complexity for breakfast and beauty for dinner
  • ...doesn’t stop at Lorem Ipsum, but writes draft copy in their design mocks so that hierarchy and user flow truly make sense
  • ...is always learning and isn’t afraid to give or receive feedback
  • ...loves to brainstorm and riff with other collaborators of all levels and types
  • ...sees typos, misaligned elements, the wrong shade of gray, or missing frames in a complex user flow and froths with the need to fix them
  • ...compulsively seizes opportunities to experiment with and improve everything they touch
  • ...can use constraints like business requirements, technical viability, promised release dates, and the feedback of real users to generate LOTS of potential solutions
  • ...knows how to communicate the pros, cons, and options in their work so that stakeholders with different expectations and expertise across the organization can understand
  • ...is self-motivated with the ability to pitch-in and adapt to a rapidly changing environment
  • ...has a healthy dose of whimsy, adventurousness and ra-ra team spirit

What you’ll actually do

  • Design UI/UX  for our 3-sided digital marketplace. This means you’ll be designing for our customer experience, writer experience, and admin tools
  • Design a grab-bag of assets for the marketing team, such as illustrations, swag, new critical web pages, email graphics, one-sheets, and conference-booth experiences
  • Execute projects from start to finish: (i) plan and coordinate tasks, (ii) seek out requirements and feedback from stakeholders, (iii) research, analyze, strategize, make recommendations (iv) create sketches, wireframes, pixel-perfect brand designs or high-fidelity UI designs (and revisions at every stage)  (v) perform usability testing (vi) work directly with engineers, and (vii) maintain libraries of UI and visual brand assets and
  • Mentor, inspire and generally collaborate with other designers, copywriters, product managers, developers and stakeholders across the company
  • Do all of this in a bootstrapped startup environment with limited resources. Because we like challenge, variety and the freedom of autonomy
  • Oh, and you’ll be reporting to (and partnering with) Verblio’s Senior Director of Design & Product, and contributing independently to our scrappy Product team of (soon-to-be) 4

What you’ll need to be successful

  • 4-5 years of professional experience turning complex problems into beautiful, usable design solutions. You can share several shining examples of real work you've shipped, and what you learned along the way
  • Strong English language skills
  • Ability to “speak engineer,” with a working knowledge of HTML, CSS, accessibility, mobile-first or responsive design approaches, and database + analytics basics
  • Fluency in standard prototyping tools of varying fidelity (for example: paper prototyping, Figma/Sketch)  and collaborative tools (for example: Invision, Miro, LucidChart)
  • Fluency with the Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Illustrator and InDesign)
  • Effectiveness when working remotely and collaborating with remote teams. We’re based in Denver, CO, but the Verblio team spans multiple cities and continents

What we offer for benefits and stuff

  • Full-time salary and equity options
  • Health, dental and vision insurance options with a  generous monthly company contribution, plus an optional 401k plan
  • Flexible paid time off and holidays
  • Free snacks and drinks and random other perks
  • This position pays a base salary of $75,000 - $90,000/year, commensurate with experience.

Why You’ll Love it Here (isn’t it obvious already?)

  • You’ll have a high degree of ownership  and opportunity to inspire your passion and personal fulfillment
  • Your work will be varied and challenging to help you grow every day
  • Did I mention we’ve got a really fun team culture and everyone is delightfully intelligent?
  • Did I mention we’re growing like mad? It’s way more fun to be on a rocketship to the stars than not. We made the Inc 5000 list for the second year in a row, and won our fifth Mercury 100 award as one of the fastest-growing companies in the Boulder Valley
  • Our current obsessions: Ted Lasso (“Football is liiife!”), our newly rebranded Podcast “Yes, and Marketing”, and a new game we made up called “Can we scratch that niche?”—set to a theme song based on Tribe’s “Can I kick it”—where we guess if our writers can deliver on the bizarre expertise that our prospects are looking for (hint: they can).

Although we are headquartered in Denver, CO,  this position can be remote.
