Are you an experienced User Experience (UX) professional seeking an opportunity to work for a leading UK homelessness charity? Then join Shelter as a UI/UX Designer and you could soon be playing a vital role at the heart of our Digital team.
About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.
At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.
We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.
About the role
This role is part of the Digital team and reports to the Senior UX Designer. As a UI/UX Designer, you’ll work closely with our Services for Professionals team, working out the best ways for our users to engage and interact with Shelter’s professional digital services. To do this, you will:
• Design for digital inclusion by ensuring that design decisions are ethical & anti-racist.
• Collaborate using co-design techniques and principles as part of your design process.
• Champion user centred design thinking.
• Be data-led
• Translate ideas into prototypes, ready to test and iterate with users
• Contribute to our design system and best practice guidance to help others make good design decisions.
About you
With experience of designing user-centred accessible digital products and services that are data led, you can take research insights and use them to collaboratively generate ideas and develop prototypes. You know what methods to use to build, test and iterate prototypes and can use wireframing software to do this. You also have experience of using and developing new UI design patterns.
