WHAT YOU WILL DO

onX is seeking a Senior Product Designer with a passion for designing products built to serve our wide array of outdoor customers.  As an onX Senior Product Designer, you will help design multiple projects across a multi-product platform. Your focus will be on all aspects pertaining to product design, including but not limited to UX, Visual Design, UI, Ideation and direct user research (including interviews) in a 0 to 1 environment. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a dynamic growing company focused on making an impact on the business, and the best applicants will have strong product, visual and UX design skills to help design and deliver projects while understanding customer use cases, delivering prototypes, working with and building on top of our design system and aid in user testing to help determine the optimal interaction and visual design. This position will report to the Senior Director of Product Design.

As a Senior Product Designer, your essential job duties and responsibilities will look like: 

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (product design, engineering, brand, and geospatial) to establish a vision for bringing a new product to market, focusing on experience design, UX, UI, and brand.
  • Develop and Improve the UX of new onX products by identifying ways we can leverage user experience, visual design, inclusive design, and best practices, and when it’s best to push boundaries.
  • Communicate and document recommendations and drive alignment with teammates, cross-functional partners, and leadership.
  • Contribute to the product design practice by providing design feedback and thought leadership, mentoring, and pairing with other designers.
  • Deliver prototypes and conduct user testing to determine optimal interaction and visual design of the product.
  • Work with the Director of Product Design and GM of New Businesses to ensure continuous collaboration with other Designers, Product Owners, Engineering, Geospatial, and Marketing teams

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in UX design or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of product design experience
  • Design experiences across multiple platforms, including fully responsive web and native mobile.(iOS and Android).
  • Advocate for quality experience decision-making, with a demonstrated ability to weigh multiple competing priorities and constraints to find the best path forward.
  • Ability to navigate between strategic work and detailed execution.
  • Communicate design rationale and evaluate designs based on established best practices, product strategy, and research.
  • Experience with generative and evaluative research methods, including surveys and user interviews, and user testing.
  • A systems thinker who can pay excellent attention to detail while considering the whole user experience.
  • Understand the basics of accessibility and inclusive design.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • In addition to your application, please submit a portfolio or case studies highlighting your design work. Applications must have a portfolio to be considered. 

ADDED BONUSES

Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:

  • Experience with product discovery, storytelling and strategy, taking products from 0 to 1.
  • Experience with mapping, navigation, geospatial applications, and outdoor recreation is a plus.
  • Thrives in a startup culture by embracing rapid iteration, experimentation, and a growth mindset.
  • Have experience working in and collaborating with a distributed team.
  • Self-starter with the ability to find solutions for unstructured problems.

WHERE YOU CAN WORK

onX has created a thriving distributed workforce community across several US locations. This position can be performed from an onX corporate office, “Basecamp,” or “Talent Cluster.” 

  • Corporate Offices: onX’s was founded in Montana with offices in Missoula and Bozeman. If you prefer to work in an office at least part of the time this is a great option.
  • Basecamps: onX’s Basecamps are established virtual workforce communities where a sizable number of distributed team members group for work, volunteering, socializing, and adventure.   
    • Our current Basecamps are located within a 90-mile radius of the following: Austin, TX; Charlotte, NC; Denver, CO; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA. 
  • Talent Clusters: onX’s Talent Cluster locations are smaller, emerging communities of distributed team members. 
    • Our current Talent Clusters are located within a 60-mile radius of the following: Boise, ID; Charleston, SC; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Richmond, VA; Spokane, WA; and Vermont.

HOW YOU’LL BE COMPENSATED

onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. Applicants can expect to make between $145,000 to $165,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
