About the Job

Reporting to the VP of Product, the Senior Director of Product Design will lead product design for O’Reilly’s core product offerings. You will shape the user experience of our products, and you’ll oversee execution via our product design team. You’ll focus on developing a design vision and strategy that brings content experiences to life with a clear design and product strategy aligned to our business goals. You’ll deeply understand the needs of a diverse set of personas, ranging from expert learners, beginners, Learning and Development decision makers, and so on. You’re passionate about developing designers’ skills and careers. You’ll advocate for design across internal teams and with stakeholders, understanding that communication and collaboration are critical to success. 

Salary range: $168,000 - $210,000

About You

As an experienced design/UX leader, you value teamwork, collaboration, and transparency throughout the design lifecycle. You have a history of evolving design direction to drive larger business goals and metrics . You’re passionate about finding opportunities for innovation that focus on engagement, retention, and improved user outcomes. You can explain to stakeholders the rationale and intent behind your team’s design decisions. Alongside your own instincts, you evolve the user experience based on qualitative and quantitative feedback. You believe products are not just used, but adored and loved. There is something intuitive and magical in the best products, and you seek to find that special something.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create and communicate a design strategy that integrates meaningful user experiences with the vision of the platform to facilitate the achievement of company goals
  • Focus on deeply understanding the user and customer journeys in order to create and improve experiences based on data
  • Deeply understand O’Reilly’s business, our customers, and our place and differentiation in the competitive landscape
  • Manage and grow the product design team by attracting and hiring new talent
  • Set standards of design consistency and excellence across all of our products
  • Update design processes to fit seamlessly into existing product development workflows
  • Partner with brand leadership to create a cohesive customer experience across customer journeys
  • Oversee the maintenance of design research artifacts, such as personas, customer journey maps, and so on

Role Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience directly managing a design team
  • 10+ years of experience building and delivering successful B2B or consumer products at scale
  • A portfolio showcasing your work or the work of a team that you led, which you can use to speak to your approach and how you measure success
  • Ability to switch between the language of business and design, setting meaningful goals and objectives for your team while advocating for critical design decisions to company leadership
  • Preferred: Direct experience with building, implementing, and managing design systems
  • Preferred: Experience in creating platform user experiences from scratch and working within EdTech, startup, SAAS or PAAS.
