UI/UX Designer

Science

Science is developing technologies for a range of serious unmet medical needs. We are unafraid to take difficult technical risks, secure in the knowledge that with a clear understanding of what we are doing and with support from powerful modern tools, more progress is possible than might be immediately obvious. Regardless of role or team, the two most important factors we look for in a candidate are evidence of exceptional ability and the addition of positive energy to the group. As a small, very early stage team in a largely unstructured environment, the ability to independently orient yourself to the problems that need to be solved and then follow through is essential.

We are looking for an experienced Product Designer to help us create world-class internal software tools and public-facing products. In this role you will help accelerate the work of the entire Science team by coming up with elegant solutions to complex user interface challenges.

Key Qualifications

  • Portfolio of work showing strong sense of visual style
  • Healthy balance of pragmatism and perfectionism
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and iteration under feedback
  • Well-honed instinct for taking complicated ideas and making them as simple and comprehensible as possible
  • Demonstrated ability to move quickly with little oversight in a fast-paced environment

Job Duties

  • Establish design standards, guidelines, and best practices. Educate and advocate for design thinking within the organization.
  • Translate complex technical and scientific concepts into intuitive, visually compelling interfaces. Ensure consistent look and feel across all products and platforms.
  • Work closely with software developers, product managers, and scientists to ensure that designs are effectively implemented and delivered.
  • Solicit and incorporate feedback from internal teams, ensuring that the software tools and products remain aligned with evolving organizational needs.
  • Engage with a diverse range of professionals, from cell biologists to microfabrication techs, ensuring software tools are tailored to the unique needs and workflows of each.
  • Create and maintain design documentation, ensuring that the design specifications are clearly communicated to development teams and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience gathering and synthesizing product requirements from a multidisciplinary team–we have in-house everyone from cell biologists to microfabrication techs to surgeons to integrated circuit designers, and our software must work for all
