Senior UX/UI Designer
Level is a learning technology company dedicated to helping students build real academic and life skills with confidence and joy. We combine proven curriculum principles with world class interactive design to make meaningful practice something students want to come back to, not something they struggle through.
We support what teachers, schools, and parents are already doing by increasing student engagement with high quality, standards aligned practice that reinforces classroom learning. That’s why we’re building:
For students: Rewarding and motivating learning experiences that build real academic proficiency.
For educators: Tools that fit naturally into instruction and help students stay engaged while reducing teacher workload.
For parents: Whether learning at school or at home, activities that help your kid catch up or get ahead, build confidence, and minimize homework battles.
We are committed to helping every person maximize their potential and live a life of meaning. It’s a difficult problem that requires brilliant people and tremendous effort over time.
We’re seeking a Senior UX/UI Designer to strengthen our day-to-day delivery and craft quality across the product. This role is ideal for someone who is exceptionally strong in Figma, interaction details, and high-fidelity prototyping - and who enjoys partnering with a Principal/Director-level designer to translate strategy into polished, implementation-ready experiences. You’ll help turn curriculum and product requirements into clear, testable designs and prototypes that engineers can build with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
High-Fidelity Design Execution: Produce polished UX/UI designs for core product features and features - from early wireframes to final UI, ensuring clarity, consistency, and implementation readiness.
Figma: Work efficiently within (and help evolve) our design system: create components and variants, propose improvements, define constraints, and maintain library hygiene (naming, tokens, documentation).
Prototyping for Behavior and Feel: Create prototypes that communicate interaction intent, motion, and UX nuance. Choose fidelity appropriately: quick click-throughs for alignment, higher-fidelity prototypes for usability testing or engineering handoff.
Interaction, Motion & Micro-Interactions: Design and prototype interaction behaviors, animations, and micro-interactions that improve clarity and increase engagement. Define component states, transitions, feedback, and edge cases to ensure experiences feel responsive, polished, and consistent.
Handoff: Deliver clear, implementation-ready Figma files, prototypes, and specifications that reduce ambiguity for both engineering and curriculum designers. Define interaction rules, states, and reusable patterns so teams can build consistently and scale content efficiently. Support build and content QA to ensure the shipped experience matches the intended design and learning goals.
Collaboration & Feedback Loops: Partner closely with engineering, product, and curriculum designers. Participate actively in critiques; incorporate feedback quickly while protecting UX coherence and accessibility.
Testing Support: Help set up lightweight usability tests (prototype-based), synthesize findings, and iterate designs accordingly - especially around comprehension, motivation, and cognitive load for K–12 learners.
Quality Ownership: Help define and uphold a high craft bar: visual polish, interaction consistency, accessibility basics, and age-appropriate design decisions.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of UX/UI design experience with a portfolio showing strong visual craft, interaction design, and shipped product work
Advanced Figma proficiency (components/variants, auto-layout, tokens/styles, library patterns, file organization)
Strong prototyping ability in Figma and/or tools like ProtoPie, Rive, Principle, Framer, etc., with examples that demonstrate interaction intent
Experience shipping features with engineers and navigating constraints without lowering quality
Strong attention to detail across states, edge cases, and accessibility basics (contrast, type scale, touch targets, focus states)
Clear communication skills: can explain design rationale, tradeoffs, and implementation guidance without over-documenting
Comfort operating in a fast-paced environment with evolving requirements and multiple parallel workstreams
Bonus Qualifications
Experience designing for K–12 or child/family products (developmental appropriateness, motivation, cognitive load)
Motion design / interaction polish skills (micro-interactions, transitions, delightful feedback)
Experience contributing to or maintaining a design system at scale
Familiarity with UI in game engines (Unity, Unreal, WebGL, Godot)
Experience working with curriculum, learning science, or instructional design partners
