SkyGrid, a Boeing SparkCognition Company, exists to open the sky for autonomous flight. Based in Austin, Texas, SkyGrid builds high-assurance third-party services to enable the safe operations and airspace integration of autonomous aircraft. SkyGrid also acts as a key operational nexus for advanced air mobility, integrating and managing data, infrastructure, access, and traffic to support seamless and efficient air traffic services. 
  
The SkyGrid team is looking for a UI Designer who will collaborate with design, product managers, and engineers to create elegant, intuitive, and data-driven features that will inform operators and provide actionable insights during all stages of flight. In this role you will establish and maintain a consistent design system for software products, ensuring cohesion and usability across all interfaces. You will continuously refine the design system based on user feedback to improve user experience and value proposition. Collaborate closely with the design team, human factors engineers, and software team to identify essential design tasks to advance a project forward. Effectively communicate design decisions and rationale to leadership and other stakeholders, addressing concerns and aligning design solutions with project goals and objectives. 

Performance Objectives:

    • Contribute to the development of initial design framework to establish a consistent design system across all products. 
    • Gain a comprehensive understanding of SkyGrid’s services and demonstrate this understanding in the design of our products. 
    • Conduct a successful inventory of UI components.  
    • Establish a baseline design system for SkyGrid products.  
    • Initiate regular reviews and solicit feedback on design work to ensure quality and alignment with project goals.  

Responsibilities:

    • Produce high-quality and consistent design artifacts, including but not limited to sketches, vector illustrations, iconography, high-fidelity mockups, simple prototypes, design specifications, and related documentation.  
    • Collaborate with engineers to ensure high-quality development handoffs. Ensure that the final user experience meets expectations and aligns with industry requirements.  
    • Initiate regular reviews and solicit feedback on design work to ensure quality and alignment with project goals.  
    • Establish and maintain a consistent design system for software products, ensuring cohesion and usability across all interfaces.  
    • Iterate on the design system based on user feedback to continuously improve user experience and value proposition.  
    • Advocate for the user throughout the design and development process.  
    • Stay updated on UI design trends, best practices, and emerging technologies, actively seeking opportunities for professional development and growth.  

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), related fields, or relevant/equivalent certification. 
    • 2 years of experience as a UI Designer, designing and shipping digital products.  
    • A portfolio is required, showcasing relevant UI design experience with launched digital products, demonstrating your design process.  
    • A strong foundation in visual design principles including typography, color theory, layout, and visual hierarchy, to create aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly interfaces for digital products.  
    • Proficiency in user interface (UI) design, with a solid foundation in visual design principles including typography, color theory, layout, and visual hierarchy. 
    • Proficiency in Figma. 
    • Possess a basic understanding of the software development process, with a focus on frontend coding languages (HTML5, CSS and JavaScript). 
    • Have a driven attention to detail in creating digital, vector assets for various resolutions, ensuring consistency with requirements and precision in design execution. 
    • Effective verbal and written communication to articulate design concepts, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and incorporate feedback effectively. 

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in designing for cartography and/or knowledge of cartographic design principles.  
    • Frontend Software development experience.  
    • Experience creating icon sets and vector illustrations in Figma and/or Adobe Illustrator.  
    • A pilot's license, working towards a pilot license or having an interest in aviation.
